My tweet isn’t some veiled partisan political commentary. Clemson’s statement is simply wrong about the constitution, and a public university should know better. The constitution, and the right to vigorously criticize, is supposed to be the constant through these times.
Whichever psycho they fired (there are so many, I forget which one worked at Clemson), deserved it, but should have been fired for being a psycho, not for "undermining the dignity of others" on Constitutional grounds. That's fucking retarded, and Clemson got it wrong, and Sweeney was right to call it out.
We stand firmly on the principles of the U.S. Constitution, including the protection of free speech. However, that right does not extend to speech that incites harm or undermines the dignity of others...
Nope, sorry, that statement is absolutely retarded and wrong. Free speech does include "undermining the dignity of others." If they'd just stuck with "inciting violence," it wouldn't be nearly as retarded, but they didn't.
I don't know Sweeney's politics. Maybe he's shit (I certainly don't like his company), but he's correct here.
Clemson even did the "we believe in free speech...but" meme. "We stand firmly on the principles of the U.S. Constitution, including the protection of free speech. However..." Again, should have just stuck with 'calls to violence' or even just 'but they made us look really bad by being completely unhinged, and that's not in keeping with our values,' or whatever.
The difference is context though, like everything.
When Brandon Eich was fired for opposing gay marriage, he was voting on a public referendum. How can voting on a public law be considered so evil you should be fired? Why did they even have a vote at all? He did a normal thing and the left destroyed him for it.
Murdering someone in cold blood is obviously evil, and when the left dances on Kirk's grave, they are saying "Killing people in cold blood is good and I want more innocents to die." This is obviously horrific. If someone says that to your face it's a crime and they can go to jail for threatening you. Firing them is a moderate compromise.
I believe Clemson is the one that has repeatedly (multiple employees) refused to take action against employees citing the 1st Amendment, despite Clemson not being the federal government.
I mean, he's right, in his follow up explanation:

Gotta push the anti free speech agenda even when firing an employee for acting like an unhinged cunt in public.
The first is literally only to restrict the government. Private entities absolutely can kick you out for your speech
Which is word-for-word the argument the left used to get people on the right harassed, fired, and debanked.

And it worked for them pretty well didn't it? It has most people afraid to even talk politics in public if they lean Right.
Correct, and they were right to do so. This is a problem with culture, not cancelling
Reread what I said.
I'm in favor of the firing. I'm not in favor of the stupid and incorrect reason they provided.
Clemson University is not a private entity.
I believe Clemson is the one that has repeatedly (multiple employees) refused to take action against employees citing the 1st Amendment, despite Clemson not being the federal government.
They receive LOTS of federal funding.
Most of their customers (students) are paying the college via FEDERAL loans.
Federal funding and state funding probably makes up a very very large portion of Clemson's revenue stream.
This isn't your uncle's small painting company with 3 employees. This is a huge publicly funded university.
Well you can be fired or terminated from college campus or expelled as a student for criticism of israel.
Universities have not been free speech zones for many years
Clemson is a publicly funded university.
But Tim Sweeney is still a faggot.
