It's not a movie that panders to the lefties but it definitely panders to fans of the first film and Sandler in general. For the wrestling fans MJF and Becky Lynch have small parts and both are fine. MJF charisma does come through while maintaining that heel smugness he's known for.
I was a big fan of the first one and smiled through this one. It's full of flashbacks, references, and gags from the first movie. I would probably give it a low C as far as a grade.
I thought it was common knowledge that Sandler movies are just an excuse for him to give his buddies a paycheck and go on a vacation with them, with the quality being completely incidental.
He absolutely fleeced Netflix on that deal.
Sucks Chris Farley isn’t around. I know he would’ve been in a few movies with Sandler
The only one that made them funny.
paraphrasing: We have so much fun on the set we forget we're making a movie sometimes
Yeah, we can tell.
No one is confused about why Sandler movies suck, but they still do suck.
One can still judge the merits of the movie, no matter the reason for making them. Netflix probably got equal return for the Sandler deal, he does bring eyeballs.
My point wasn't that people shouldn't judge it. My point was that they should never expect anything better than a "low C" from him. He doesn't make good movies. He makes paychecks for people he cares about.
He seems like a great guy and a loyal friend, but his movies are shit.
That sounds....like A LOT of Sandler films where he does them for a paycheck.
Can't dislike him for that as you can see which films he TRULY wants to do, he'll just do the standard thing for the rest.
It's funny. Adam once said that whenever he wants to vacation, he'll come up with a movie at that location and use the travel and hotel as a tax write-off. It's also why so many of his friends are in his movies, so they can get paid and have a good time.
Sandler is good in the movie, he's not phoning it in.
While his films can be lazy slop it's worse when it's lazy sequel slop that couldn't even come up with a more original idea.
Little Nicky, Happy Gilmore, Water Boy, 50 First Dates, whatever. All distinct works. It's like Dumb and Dumber 2 all over again which barring Ace Ventura 2 worked in Jim Carey's favour for why he never did sequels.
I was expecting it to be like bill and ted 3. But it ain't 2019 anymore thank GOD.
That movie was EXACTLY what I guessed it would be. They have daughters that are the REAL Wyld stallions. It was the most hopeless I felt about our culture. First time i felt like 2 hrs of my life were stolen and burned in a faggy woke firepit.
In the age of sequels, adaptations, and reboots shitting on their core fans in search of the "modern audience" and critical accolades, I think it's nice to hear of almost anything that does the opposite, even if I'm not in the audience it's pandering to.
I agree, what's a more positive word for pandering? Plays for the fans, maybe?
Thanks. You think MJF ever goes to WWE? I love the first movie as well. Carl Weathers in the second one? Not sure if he died before they could do some flashback or scene in heaven like Little Nicky
Sandler said they had a part for him but Weathers died. I don't know if he ever goes to the WWE. My feeling is he stays with AEW through his prime.
No shit it doesnt pander to liberals. Have you ever seen an Adam Sandler movie. How was this a question
Because its 2025 and literally everyone and everything has seemingly bent the knee to them, especially in the mainstream. So its still a necessary worry to have.
Granted, I think people should have been more worried because he hasn't made an actual good movie in like 20 years and was trotting out an ancient nostalgia bait. Two bad signs.
Plus Sandler is a member of God's Chosen People™, with all the baggage that entails.
To be fair the first Happy Gilmore is average as well.
I loved it as a kid and even as an adult my nostalgia glasses are firmly on watching it. It could be average but I'll never objectively see it.
That I can agree on. The '86 Transformers is the best movie ever made. I know its a wrong opinion, but I'll still fight people over it.
