A follow up. A fan was banned permanently from every ballpark in baseball for shouting something about a player's dead mom. The player revealed what he said, "I messaged your mom last night." (archive.ph)

The fan sounds like such an arsehole that it justifies him getting banned.

Insult the guy, don't be a pussy and insult his family, especially dead relatives to hurt him.

You are the reason modern games no longer have proximity chat. Grow up. Stop crying about nothing. Fucking tourists.

How is this related to gaming? We are talking about a guy PAYING to enter a PUBLIC event to DIRECTLY harass someone by bringing up their dead relatives within earshot.

That sounds less like a public COD lobby, more like targeted bullying.

Have you ever been to a comedy show outside of North America? Or watched one on youtube? Many people pay to attend them just to heckle the guy on stage. It's to the point that English comedians have remarked in interviews how different it felt to do a show for Just for Laughs in Montreal, because they'd be able to do their whole bit without interruption. Would paying to do that be your cup of tea? Probably not, but it's still surprisingly common. It also teaches the comedians to not be so stuck up, to get a sense of humour, to have thick skin and to be able to improvise a counter-barb on their feet.

This was such a trivial jab from the fan, that the league's reaction is entirely over the top, in my opinion. They should grow up. It's just fucking words.

Again, different setting, one in which you EXPECT it.

An ACTUAL counter argument would be football chanting in the UK where the crowd COLLECTIVELY chanted insults to their team, the opposing team, hell to themselves! But it was always collective not one guy by himself.

But this guy sounds like he at least ensured he would be close enough in the stadium to the guy so he could hear him. Do you see the issue here with this?

Was this a comedy show? Was the victim of the insult expecting to be harassed by the audience? Is that normal for this venue?
No.
They banned a guy for making the "OK" sign, claiming it was racist. IDK if that was ever overturned, but the "woke precedent" was set. Them's the rules now.

I hope they'll "walk it back" but sending the message was important! Do NOT do this.

There was an NBA player named Vernon Maxwell who charged into the stands during an away game to assault a fan.

Why?

The fan insulted Maxwell's stillborn daughter.

For once, I can't blame the player.

And in that case it was worse as security SHOULD have kicked that 'fan' out.

Too many think freedom of speech includes freedom to be an arsehole WITHOUT consequence.
