When they talk about the demise of third spaces they conveniently leave that part out. It's not just libraries; public spaces in general have gone to shit because civilized behavior is no longer a prerequisite for using them.
Our downtown library needed metal scanners and armed security, it is overrun with sniffers, junkies and insane "streetpeople" most of whom are Native and thus "untouchable".
