Trump just announced all country tariffs will be paused for 90 days except for China whos stuck at 125% now. There will be a minimum 10% tariff applied during this 90 days pause.
And I'm thinking this is just what he planned out in advance. Not only did he get everyone to take his threat seriously, he actually collected tariffs. Now that everyone knows he's crazy enough to do this he graciously gave a pause and lowered all the tariffs except china to 10%, something a lot of these countries are now so happy for. And something they'll want to keep after 90 days
Interesting to see what China does next. Maybe release new covid
It's what he always does: come out with something outrageous and huge to get people to the table right now, instead of the usual "let's pencil in a date in Q3 of 2026 and have subordinates with no power deliberate for years". It gets shit done and sets the stage for favorable terms.
Eurocucks on the other drag things out for years and in the end get bent over by every shitty 3rd world country because all they care about is "being liked" no matter how much it costs them.
I mean the left is just going hahahaha he folded now without realizing he got an extra 10% tariffs
Retards gonna retard
Literally straight out of his book on negotiation.
The outrages part also makes the other person think they are getting a good deal when they give Trump what he wants. It's quite fascinating to see so many people here in the EU call Trump an idiot and how they are beating him where at every turn they give him what he was aiming for from the start.
People that claim to be very smart in the ways of economics yet can't spot a basic negotiation tactic. No wonder we screw up our economies so much.
And god forbid you try and tell them that this is what is happening, they will screech at you and likely point to the stock value of some American thing and go "see it went down so trump bad"
But hey I'm at the point where I sit back and enjoy the show, and Trump, and the response to him is an amazing show to watch
The EUs behavior directly parallels what dysfunctional parenting strategies look like.
That planning system sounds like how Disney designs parks...
Basically, he's sidelined China who thought they could stand toe to toe to America only because they have more media influences thanks to western media's failing.
Now that the likes of Japan, South Korea and India suddenly have their tariffs down to 10%, they feel like they can breathe while China is the one guy outside in the cold.
China is just flailing in the wind with a “counter tariff.” All it did was stop them from getting pig, which just starves the Chinese populace more.
Now China is asking for a negotiation
How fast did they fold last time Trump had a trade war with China? Was it more than a month?
4d chess or not, if there's any context I would actually expect Trump to be capable of some grand 4d chess master plan in, it's this one.
Trump is literally a master negotiator. Negotiation books reference Art of The Deal for a reason
Perhaps an application of game theory directed at China all along.
I think another aspect I've not seen anyone mention, maybe a minor one, is to shake out corruption in Customs enforcement.
Like I imagine inspectors are looking a lot closer at origin and what's in the containers than ever before while they're enforcing all these changes. The corrupt ones are worried about getting caught from closer and unexpected scrutiny. The lazy ones actually opening crates and looking inside.
And I don't know if there was really anything not tariffed before, but a blanket 10% minimum means everything gets looked at in some way, no exceptions.
Oh there was definitely stuff that didn't get tariffed unless it hit a certain amount. Like 3d printers from europe from personal experience. Probably a lot more
Economic Youtubers have been saying the tariffs are for leverage.
I thought this was all because Trump missed Christmas, and so wanted to have a whole pile of giant green and red candles, all in a row every day for a month.
