It added: "If an entire newsroom can be sidelined overnight, what does that say about the state of press freedom?

I suppose it says they should probably become profitable rather than depending on tax dollars to keep them afloat.

How can government funded media be considered "free" to begin with

Here's the issue: how can privately-funded mainstream media remain profitable? We're no longer in an era where everyone tunes in to a specific channel for "unbiased" coverage. They've all proven to be corrupt and catering to special interests, like the government, or in its absence, rich donators like Soros and other billionaires with an agenda. They can't make a profit and maintain standards purely on commercials, since fewer people than ever actually watch tv, and most people have ways to avoid watching ads with streaming.

So how else are they supposed to stay afloat and with good standards? You can't run a network like Fox or CNN with the OMG's funding.

It's not up to us to figure out how to fix their dying business model.

Move to more "subtle" (hah) product placement, like how many news stations will have cutesy puff pieces about medical wonders of pharmaceuticals whenever Pfizer buys ad space. And then scale down operations and shift focii.

'Bloody Saturday' at Voice of America and other U.S.-funded networks

That is funny. Poor propaganda machine

I find it funny how much BBC cares about Voice of America no longer getting government funding for propaganda.

There's a rich history from William Stephenson, Alistair Cooke and Martin Amis to Melvyn Bragg and Bill Bryson, it's a far greater network than that but this can give you a rough idea of the old boys' club never really having left America to itself, as best it can anyway.

Why would George Orwell's guardian of the Kohinoor become less friendly with Oceania and more friendly with Eurasia?

The culture war has stepped afk and is now in the private members' clubs eyeing up the cutlery and taking note of who is on the board.

The National Press Club, a leading representative group for US journalists, said the order "undermines America's long-standing commitment to a free and independent press".

It added: "If an entire newsroom can be sidelined overnight, what does that say about the state of press freedom?

It says you're free to fund it yourself, dipshit.

"An entire institution is being dismantled piece by piece. This isn't just a staffing decision - it's a fundamental shift that endangers the future of independent journalism at VOA."

I don't know how anyone can say this with a straight face....

He should pare it down to one person whose only job is to repeatedly press play on "Team America World Police" theme.
