Yes and no. Idk if I'd have noticed it, but once it was before me it would be impossible to not understand the comparisons and analogies presented
It would have flown completely under my radar until it got an anime adaptation, same as almost every other manga that wasn't created decades ago. I think that says more about how plugged into the manga scene I am than anything though.
There's some positives to that, I'm into the manga/manwha scene and there are really good ones but have gone in hiatus for long periods.
Then there's some that start well and are interesting but halfway through screw up the story and you're like 'wasted my time reading this!'.
Ah yes, I too remember waiting years between volumes of Berserk.
I would have read it for sure at some point just to see what it was about, but I read all manga via scanlation sites and don't really discriminate based on genres or art, just look for compelling stories.
I might've caught it, considering the time I spend on scanlation sites looking for slop. But no guarantee.

Chicken and Watermelon is perfect for farming on shit quality land for lots of nutrients. Chickens are Chicken, and produce eggs, and eat basically anything. Watermelon grows like a weed, and doesn't need to be buried. Freed slaves could basically only purchase poor quality land, so this became a staple of freed blacks.
Freed slaves were lucky then.
