It'll never stop being funny how 'liking fried chicken' is somehow a grave insult in Merica.
Chicken and Watermelon is perfect for farming on shit quality land for lots of nutrients. Chickens are Chicken, and produce eggs, and eat basically anything. Watermelon grows like a weed, and doesn't need to be buried. Freed slaves could basically only purchase poor quality land, so this became a staple of freed blacks.
Freed slaves were lucky then.
