Essentially, Avelone is heavily responsible for the good games that particular studio produced. Since he's gone they have pretty much fallen off a cliff.
PLUS... Avellone got metooed in 2020. He always denied it, fought back hard, sued for libel, and forced a seven figure settlement out of two women AND they had to issue public statements clearing his name.
I wonder if dying light 2 would have been a better game, atleast more nuanced factions than the two it had. If he had not been forced out due to that shit.
The irony is that Marty is the only name anyone knows from Bungie, and Bungie is only known because of Halo.
Chris did Fallout 2, Fallout:NV, Neverwinter Nights 2, KotOR2, FTL, Into the Breach, Torment: Tides of Numenera and best CRPG ever made Planescape: Torment, among many others.
Septerra Core is a decent game. I think it was my first JRPG.
When I was a kid it was epic. Great world idea, the lore was good and characters were very likable. I tried replaying it recently and it is still good but there are some stuff in there that just don't work when you are an adult.
Myth, it is the definition of a rough gem, a very very rough gem. It is a 3d, Medieval strategy game without army generation that takes in to account terrain and weather. Imagine trying to send a molotov cocktail when it rains, it will not go off or if you want to send any projectile uphill it will bounce back, stuff like that. It also had a great story behind it. Can't recommend because the camera was horrendous, it's crazy how bad the camera on that game is.
He was behind the success of Fallout 2, Fallout NV, KOTOR 2, Platescape Torment, NWN 2 MOTB, later he did some work on DOS 2 and Pillars of Eternity. Without him there would not have been an Obsidian. Some of the best story driven games are great thanks to him.
He fell off after some metoo allegations that were probably fake or at least exaggerated and have been blacklisted since then.
Show some respect: Calling Chris Avellone "Ex-Obsidian developer" is like calling Shigeru Miyamoto Ex-Nintendo developer.
Yeah, I was about to say, Avellone isn't some nobody, he's pretty much THE reason Obsidian had a good reputation at any point... supposedly.
My age might be showing. Im not well versed in names. For me Martin O Donnel is a known name.

Since then, he's been a lot less filtered.

Damn - I knew of him from Fallout NV, but wasn't aware he'd also worked on a bunch of other games I loved.
Yes, you are young.
Chris Avellone is Planescape Tornment & Fallout 2.
If you really played Myth & Septerra Core I will remove the "young" part ;)
I know these games by name only, started Fallout with 3. Myth and Septerra..I have no idea what that is.

Myth Fallen Lords? Great game. Played it again last year.
That game needs a remaster, fix the camera and smooth out attacks and projectile speed and leave the rest as it and it is amazing.
