The editor of a left-leaning British newspaper offered its staffers counseling to cope with Donald Trump’s “upsetting” victory in Tuesday’s presidential election, The Post has learned.
Katherine Viner, editor-in-chief of The Guardian, urged journalists at the newspaper’s UK and Australia offices to contact their colleagues in the United States to “offer your support,” according to a copy of her email obtained by The Post.
“I know the result has been very upsetting for many colleagues,” she wrote.
“If you want to talk about it, your manager and members of the leadership team are all available, as is the People team.”
Viner added that employees upset by Trump’s return to the White House can access free mental health support from internal company portals, according to the memo.
“The election has exposed alarming fault lines on many fronts, which we will be examining in the weeks and months ahead,” Viner wrote.
When you win so hard that people a literal ocean away need therapy about it.
It’s honestly sad to see adults act this way. Things happen you won’t like in life and as my dad said a million times “life isn’t always fair”. I guess these people live in such a bubble they thought nobody disagreed with them
Its not that they think people don't disagree with them. Its that they thought they were the good guys of the story (aka destined to win) and had the upper hand enough to not ever have to worry about "sliding back" regardless of what the deplorables think.
The notion that their enemies still exist in enough number and have the capability of making real opposition to them is terrifying because they know they can't win on any front beyond demoralization and social.
That, and they know that their enemies are out for their blood after the way they all behaved for the last eight years.
Man I wish that were true.
True.
They know people disagree with them. Only STUPID and RACIST people like you.
Convicted felon! Russia! Insurrection!
Yea. Guess I’m naive.
They're trotting out rapist right now.
Yes "adjudicated rapist", which means they're taking findings from a civil trial with completely different standards of evidence, no presumption of innocence, and a "more likely than not" burden of proof and conflating them into some sort of pseudo finding of criminal guilt.
I never seen this term before, but they leave no stone unturned in their smear campaign against Trump.
There are a lot of adults with the mentality of children who don't understand why this is the better way for things to be. All they care about is them and theirs and getting things to go how they want. They wouldn't stop for a second to consider the flipside which is that if life was fair every bad thing that happened to you would be deserved.
It's shocking that people who are meant to be able to read the room professionally hadn't considered that Donald Trump was a genuine contender for the office of POTUS.
But then they did put all of their staff on silent alert until they had been debriefed by Leigh Alexander after Gamergate emerged as a consumer revolt.
Long gone are the days of them protecting Edward Snowden and fighting the good fight.
Rent free, across the sea.
Yes I know it's an ocean but that doesn't rhyme or fit the patter.
They're just a hop skip and a jump from reality away.
"Unbiased journalism", ladies and gentlemen.
Journalism was never unbiased. They just did a better job of hiding their biases before.
Not even then. We just have more tools to break the gaslighting now.
Russians Hungry, But Not Starving
I think papers used to be more bias, and open about it.
Sounds like a good way to get your entire staff medicated and more compliant from it.
Though that's me assuming that a cabal of journalists aren't both already medicated or seeing a counselor to begin with.
Objective journalisming.
They're going to become inconsolable when they have to write stories about all of Trumps picks; especially Elon.
Suck it Uk cucks.
