What's a good feed to browse (if any)?
posted 1 year ago by ApparentlyImAHeretic 1 year ago by ApparentlyImAHeretic +46 / -0

I find myself only browsing political stuff nowadays, and it's wearing on my psyche. everywhere I go is infected with culture war bullshit. Is there any good place to browse dank memes anymore?

I usually blow off steam by getting off the internet and playing vidya, but I also enjoy going on /v/ and calling people faggots.

I've been wondering the same thing somewhat. Thinking back, being actively involved in a close-knit hobby or gaming community used to qualify.

Sadly not always devoid of the occasional political/regressive bullshit (obviously), but at least it can be something that isn't exactly centered around political topics.

I try to post gaming related stuff that's non-political from time to time for this reason. Most of it is usually trash I typed/made myself, but I try, lol.

I'd like to find something like that too, I get pretty sick of politics being the only type of content on every website I view.

I'd prefer to casually bounce between somewhere like here and x, but it just eventually wears me down as well.

For me, the relief comes in non-internet activities. Disc golf, Magic: the Gathering, and, most recently for me, spending time on a range learning my first firearm. They recharge me, they often involve other people I've never met, and politics usually isn't even considered polite topics.

I think that may be the way to go, I just am such an over the top introvert these days that I am not really looking to go out. I mean I work every week and enjoy spending time with my team to be honest, but that is just about all the social interaction I need at that point. By the time I am free for the weekend/evenings I just want to relax and look at dumb shit on the internet in between gaming.

But this is all some first world problem whiny shit, I'm not asking for anyone to solve my problems with this one, I've gotta make some changes myself.

Closest I got was withdrawing into modding a 25 year old game and heading back to ye olde bulletin board forums to ask for technical insights. It ain't much, but it was refreshing to go back to the old style of internet communication.

I have a curated Twitter account dedicated to Korean cartoons, which sometimes has dank memes. Every once in a while, I like to dive into the open sewer that is the For You tab in the hopes of finding new art.

Still very politics/culture war heavy, but I find myself scrolling I, Hypocrite's @lporiginalg Twitter feed for a nice mix of news, memes and humor.

It requires a logged in account to access/have it display, but the Articles & News/Happenings section over at kiwifarms.com is a decently curated news aggregator from a based/autist perspective.

if you're into manga/anime look up various -folk subreddits, those have some real fun discussions

You can follow non-political accounts on X and even make lists with different accounts on them so you have a gaming feed, a cat picture feed, etc.

Not dank memes but YouTube shorts can be a good escape but you have to curate your feed by liking/disliking quite a bit at the start.

I pretty much only see shorts about history, astronomy, animals, and general comedy stuff. Occasionally they'll throw in some political stuff but I'll dislike and tap "don't recommend this channel" or whatever it's called and then I won't see it again for a while.

I doubt 30 minutes of shorts a few times per week is going to rot my brain but I'll keep you posted

Maybe we should set up a discord (or something like it, I don't know I'm getting old) where we can put away the political stuff and just meme, socialize, whatever normal people do on those servers.

Or do we already have one that I'm not aware of ?

Then again I'm very anti social so probably won't contribute much, would still like to join one though

If you're on twitter, BrianRoemmele is fantastic.

He's trying to create an AI trained on VHS tapes and old magazines so that it's not biased by all the politics of the internet.

His feed constantly has interesting things, and no politics.
