The word Wierd brought to you by the people who brought you the word Ick because they knew explaining even slightly what they meant would make them seem awful and lose support.
Yeah, I remember Norm Macdonald talking about how people will get these labels attached to them that stick and don't really mean anything.
Like how Hollywood won't work with someone because they're "difficult" and Norm was saying it's usually the "difficult" people who are the most talented, and what, do you want someone who's just a bland person who doesn't fight for how they see something? He was talking to Billy Bob Thornton on his podcast because Billy Bob Thornton has gotten that label and Norm was praising him for Slingblade.
He then mentioned how Dave Chappelle said he got this label that stuck to him in the early 2000s when he left the Chappelle show that he's "crazy" and how it doesn't mean anything, and yet people just take to it like it means something. They didn't like that Dave Chappelle walked away from the system, so they attached the label "crazy" to him and it worked.
Crazy, weird, difficult....these are all vague words that allow the hearer to fill in the blanks. They're the sign that someone using it has totally lost the battle. Because if they had specifics to throw at a person, they would. It's basically the last ditch attempt of psychological warfare; since they failed at the more extreme measure of trying to assassinate Trump.
Sort of like how, and I'm paraphrasing what Sargon of Akkad reported on back in the day, how Putin utterly embarrassed the US with some foreign affair during Obama's tenure, and in response, the FBI or CIA (I forget which) released a report that speculated that Putin has autism or aspergers. I kid you not.
It's seriously resorting to middle school level mentality. Somebody utterly shows you up, so you go "whatever, that guys weird...he's an autist"
Its also extremely pathetic because it crumples under the slightest pushback. Literally ask them to explain what they mean and they will melt the fuck down at you because they know they can't.
Which goes to show how coddled all these people are. They are able to talk brazenly without a single bit of resistance.
I just tell them that they're NPCs and bots because they all started saying the same word at the same time.
That's why the always decry with censorship. This is horse beating but holy f*ck.
Was it the ex KGB guy that said if you demoralise an individual enough they will never see truth? Or words to that effect.
If you get in as a corporate lemming and can learn to deal with these labeled people, it pays off a ton. I remember one guy that used to get a bad rep because he was not the best at communication, especially e-mails. If I had to guess he had some of one of the -tisms. He was in charge of equipment, let's just generalize it and say server config. The thing is, all you had to do was take the time to go talk to him in person, and you'd realize he was actually insanely good at his job. He could whip up some script to do something in 15 minutes that my peers would hire outside vendors and take weeks to do. All it took to look really good at my job was going my their office every Friday for a couple hours, chatting with guys about things we needed, etc. I don't understand it at times, I've always had social issues, but actual socialites people skills in the workplace are shit.
I've been labeled as difficult. It's cost me some work, but the people who gave the label have difficulty getting things done. So, guess who gets hired to right the ship?
"Actual socialites" are too busying fishing for dirt to use as ammunition against you when it comes time for promotions (or, more accurately, layoffs). These fuckers aren't your equals, and they sure as fuck aren't your friends.
Also from the same people saying "Keep Portland weird!" for years.
But not that way, and not past 8
