because women, in aggregate, love in-groups and attention. These girls have identified an in group and are falling over themselves to not only be a part of it, but be the most recognized within it.

There's a whole world of drama you don't know about and don't want to know about. I never would have found out about all the mean girl shit going on between the 30s/40s white "male" professors in my grad school department had I not been studying with one of the women in my class, and she was one of the "good" ones.
