It's a weird thing. Red hair used to mean working class or poor. We don't even think about that anymore because of prominent rich red heads, but it was the reference being made when comics were around.
It's even older than you think. Thor represents the working class in Norse legends. He has a hammer, is red haired, and is built wide like farmers and workmen. This got tossed out the window for comics because it seemed ridiculous to have a Norse God be red haired.
Because the highest density of redheads in the world is Ireland and Scotland, and migrants from both were generally not that high up the social ladder historically.
The Irish have a 100% completely justifiable ethno-nationalism based on anti-colonialism. However, their independence and revolution was based on a Progressive Nationalist movement. A lot of those same Irish Nationalists came to the US and supported the Progressive Nationalist causes of the IRA and Sinn Fein (sometimes to the great consternation of the domestic populations of Ireland & N. Ireland because that also extended to support for terrorism and National Socialism in Ireland).
However, the American Black National Socialists have re-written and internationalized the racialist narratives of the progressives; and those luxury beliefs mean that TRUE Irish Nationalism means hating the English and importing 50 billion Bamalians into the country because Ireland has no culture. The SNP has done the same thing in the UK.
The Irish identity must be exterminated explicitly because it actually matches quite well with progressive anti-colonial narratives and is an extension of archaic progressive narratives on race; but it is standing in the way of the current progressive narratives on race. Since the Progressives can never be wrong, they can never have been wrong, and so Irish Nationalism is White Supremacy and must be exterminated.
I theorized it has something to do with the fact that red hair and blue/green eyes is mutation that is unique among european caucasians and thus what makes whites
visually stand out compared to the rest of the world. hollywood jews and leftist being the crazy racist they are sees this as some form of injustice seeks to remedy it by warping any depiction of your typical ginger (which are usually irish descent) to the one race they look the lowest upon, blacks.

I know a native Nordic person who has red hair so totally not impossible for non-Irish to have red hair even though it's extremely rare.
