I don't recall this kind of vitriol from him until after the whole Dave Rubin tour, then it started spewing both online and from his mouth ("up yours woke moralists").
Even if he always was a fraud, his attitude and bearing changed drastically.

That doesn't even make sense to me. Sure he would occasionally throw bones about clown world being tough for men, but his whole spiel is that men need to buck up and give more than they take despite the deck being stacked against them. Seems antithetical to MGTOW.
Redpillers almost always referred to him as either Blue Pill or, generously, Purple Pill, routinely pointing out his n-count of 1 and not being a good example of relationship advice. Maybe tradcels/neocucks praised him, but I don't recall many hard-line MGTOWs doing so.
