---OG Japanese version: "Is your war (with PTSD) finally over?"
Woman conveys care and love for man
---Netflix botched english dub and subtitles: "Can this war of yours finally be done?"
Woman seems pissed off with man that he's inconveniencing everyone
Apparently the subtitles in movie theatres were more accurate whilst both the Netflix dub AND subtitles are fucked. Netflix subtitles is literally just dubtitles (as in its just the dub)
God forbid a woman love a man enough to let him deal with his shit without passive aggressive attitude.
The entire movie you can tell she is tired of his inability to let it go, but instead of provoking him by being a bitch about it she understands that he literally saved her life and continues to provide for her despite it all.
You know, like a good and understanding wife would. Which is why he eventually realizes he wants to live in the end.
It wouldn't even be an incorrect line read if she was like that the entire movie. But its a full 180 from her normal personality and attitude.
Ironically, its something that a localizer should have caught, as its completely out of place both as a translation given context and how a woman in that time/place would speak.
They don't hire, they contract. They pay brokers who in turn pay 'independent' transcribers almost / less than minimum wage.
The company that does netflix also does medical and court transcriptions, so you get bits of tv shows and movies randomly thrown in with court cases and medical diagnoses as you transcribe.
i never formed an opinion about anything else regarding it, because i couldn't get over how bad the CGI was. couldn't finish it. i even waited months for a decent version to come out on the pirate web. looked forward to it so much, too. what a let-down.
While not perfect, I thought the CGI was pretty good. Even if the CGI was garbage, I still think the movie would be good, because the characters, writing, acting, and messaging are all good.
I'm also absolutely willing to forgive a bit of jank for 10mil budget (particularly for a big monster film which is much harder to do well on low budget), it easily looks better than some 100m films
I'd rather watch a 12 million dollar movie with okay CGI and a good story/characters, than a 200 million dollar dollar movie with slightly-better-but-still-painfully-obvious-green-screen CGI with insufferable story/characters.
That's why you watch Godzilla vs King Kong - CGI was over the top and obvious but it was dumb fun shit with monsters punching the shit out of each other with no plotline.

I didn't see the movie so when I read the translation "Can this war of yours finally be done?" I thought that's actually on brand with women nowadays.
But given the context that she is somewhat understanding I get why people think the translation sucked.

Netflix doesn't really hire competent people anymore.
Just special little dipshits with a chip on their shoulder and a massive entitlement complex.
They didn't even need to hire competent people. All they needed to do was copy/paste the theatrical subtitles.

"Muh media literacy" creatures fail to do a media literacy.
Dubs are for fags.
Much like Netflix.
Only problem is even with subs, the subs are "localized" and are often integrated with the EN dub script. I fucking hate it.
TITW
Glad I grabbed the OG months ago
Didn't even know it had a dub, watched it subbed in my local theater.
that movie's CGI was shit

If "man with guitar" warrants a $70 million budget these days, $10 million for Godzilla is a shoestring budget.
The funny thing is the other Godzilla movie, Godzilla x King Kong had good CGI and used LESS money than the other movies that debuted that week lmao

Retardation is racheting up here.
