Apparently reasonably historically "accurate" (story is fiction, but the techniques aren't) naval battle scene from Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (with Russell Crowe). Worth a watch, if you haven't seen it. Lots of cannon. Rather satisfying. (www.youtube.com)

A couple of less accurate details would probably be the hairstyles and the accents (hon hon hon baguette), but I think they can probably be let off on that, given how fucking awesome this scene is.

The movie in general is pretty good, too. Bleak, but good. Dope scenery, too.

Pity they never made a sequel while CRusty was still at his prime.

He's now a fat, annoying, "politically active", grumpy old fart, who I've had the "fortune" to come across in person more than once, lol.

It didn't do well at the box office, but it was worth a sequel.

Russell Crow ate himself rotund after his divorce. I believe.

Yeah. First time I ran into him in person was in the baggage collection area at Sydney (domestic) airport, where he was in the line in front of me to get takeaway...

He was so incredibly obnoxious to the person serving him, it was very clear that it was a "Don't you know who I am?" type situation, lol. And they were just doing their job.

I think he ended up walking away without even buying anything, and I just stared at the fat (at that point), short fuck, as he walked off, lol...

And then I think I said to the cashier, "Was that Russell Crowe?", and they sheepishly said "Yep". No one present was terribly impressed.

Bear in mind that this was some time after his phone smashing incident (was that before, or after his divorce? Idk), so none of wanted to confront the guy, lol...

Side note: ran into Barry Humphries and Billy Thorpe (if people know who either of those were) in the exact same place, but both of them were perfectly normal and polite, lol. Just not Rusty, unfortunately...

I very briefly worked at cineworld ( like 3 months whilst between contracts ) and we had a red carpet debut screening of Noah, so he attended with some other cast and crew to introduce the movie. His agent made us buy in a specifically large amount his favourite australian drink which we dont usually sell, and he didnt buy a single one. He was rude to all the staff, started smoking indoors, when asked not to, we even opened up a fire exit, he didnt go outside just smoked in the private fire escape. Generally a shit night to work the bar as himself and all the crew were arrogant fucks.

On the contrary I met most of the Welsh rugby team whilst working in a different bar part time (between contracts again) and they were the nicest people I've ever met, even cleared their own table of glasses and drinks before they left.

Speaking of running into actors, ran across Brent Spiner once at a convention, maybe 8 years ago. Gave me the impression of someone who's very hands on and an active go-getter, as he was rushing to get something in preparation for an event.

Could've been very situational, but given his age and being a fairly non-athletic actor, i was a little surprised.

Great movie. I loved the Hornblower TV show which was based on some books by the same guy. Although the last one has some shockingly bad vfx.

Point of order! The Aubrey-Maturin series (Master and Commander) is by Patrick O'Brian, and the Hornblower series is by C. S. Forester, who also wrote the books behind a bunch of movies (The African Queen, Sink the BisMarck!, Greyhound).

Great movie. My kids really enjoyed it as well. Not particularly shocking, boys will be boys.

I just got a ton of those books recently from a library sale. Wonderful reads. The movie is great and I was really sad how Disney basically destroyed it to promote Pirates of the Caribbean

One of my professors was a camera operator on this movie. He didn't mention it at the time and I only found out later.

The movie is more than 20 years old and it's generally rated as good, but not exceptional. It's behind 2000 other movies on imdb.

Indeed, highly rated film, talks about the reality of evolution and the nonsense that is creationism in a way that christians can understand.

I thought you only came out of your tunnel to defend Jews? Now you're rentfree'ing no matter what is being discussed?
