Remember how fat the hoe was from Last Jedi? These people abhor beauty.
I’m not sure she was all that big. They did everything they could to make her look that way though between that haircut and the potato sack they put her in.
It was the perfect trifecta to piss off Chinese audiences.
Fat ❌
Frumpy ❌
Black love interest ❌
You forgot Vietnamese
Asia's massively racist towards other Asians, China especially.
She isn't even really ugly. I have seen her properly made up for an event.
She surely isn't stunning, but they did their absolute best to make her look not pretty.
Because they think a woman being just 5% pretty would ruin her character. Like that would make her somehow fail at being a character.
The real issue is they're concerned that people aren't forming families irl, which are necessary to keep the machine of society running. However, instead of recognizing that many of the other things they're doing economically and socially are huge contributors, they're hyper focused on trying to solve the problem exclusively in the realm of media, because they refuse to even consider that their lust for power and profit could be at fault, and especially the role that pervasive surveillance plays in infringing upon opportunities for romance. Despite how hard they've pushed to try and normalize the idea that being watched is sexy, most people will never actually agree with them on that point.
I remember her having the fattest face I'd ever seen on an Asian woman.
Never seen it.
Don't. Unless you want to watch an unlikable fat frumpy tattooed Asian lesbian go through a non-redemption arc where we learn to accept her for who she is because she's already beautiful, while Michelle Yeoh does martial arts in a whole bunch of "oh that's so random!" scenes that make very little sense. Plus a butt plug and dildo fight, because ha that's so random.
Yeah that's a big no.
Yeah. My thoughts as well, just with the addition of, "I can understand why this won awards." Normies are so used to generic slop that a somewhat clumsily executed sci-fi story must be mind blowing for them. The whole thing felt like a Heroes mashed together with invader Zim. Just aping things from the early 2000s is enough to stand out these days. It wasn't excellent, but it sure must have seemed unique if you're used to Hollywood's usual faire.
