For decades Ron co-hosted Coach's Corner, the most popular 8 minutes in Canadian TV with hockey legend Don Cherry. 4 hrs ago Don lamented that hardly anyone wears a poppy, the symbol of remembrance for war dead. He specifically called out immigrants (no mention of race) for coming here and not supporting veterans by paying a couple bucks for a poppy pin. The woke left mob, which had been going after Cherry for years, finally got their point of flesh as Don was fired. Ron did nothing to defend him.

A few days ago Ron decided to become a free speech champion. No, he didn't apologize to Don and say his employers should re-hire him. No he didn't come out defended vax skeptics, the Freedom Convoy supporters who had their bank accounts frozen, the pastors who were jailed for holding church during covid or peacefully protesting drag time story hours, Trudeau's multiple censorship bills, etc

No, the issue that Ron felt was unacceptable to be restricted was...rainbow hockey tape.

Op-ed- "NHL, NHLPA Pride-tape ban misses the point" https://archive.ph/DGpQP

Not only that, he compares it to Jackie Robinson...no I'm not kidding:

However powerful the IOC thought itself to be, Tommie Smith and John Carlos wearing Black Power gloves on the medal podium in Mexico City 1968 stood for something far greater than a medal or an anthem or an Olympic Games. They stood for their rights. Like Jackie Robinson, who marched in the name of civil rights in 1958. Roberto Clemente and the Pittsburgh Pirates, who missed opening day to attend the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. Like Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King, Colin Kaepernick, Luke Prokop ... an unbroken line of unbroken promises. A promise by these athletes not to let bad leadership bully the truth.

Rebel News covered this, it's behind a paywall but the audio is available for free along with a small summary: https://www.rebelnews.com/ezra_levant_show_october_18_2023

Ron actually did reply to their request for comment. I screenshotted both the questions and answers: https://imgur.com/a/S0ihX8g

tl;dr It's not hypocritical because what Don said wasn't true (it was) and that Don saying "you people" "promotes hatred".
