yep, banning guns does mean that there are less guns sold on the regular market, and therefore obtaining one is harder. however, this only works in a country that has tightly secured borders and is not infested with rogue mafia. Even then, while the gun death rate goes down because guns are not available, the murder rate is not really affected.
my guess is that OP happens because the black market was able to arm the criminal easily, and the moral fiber of the country was low enough that such a criminal could exist.

That has been my hypothesis as well. European borders are not exactly 'tightly secured', and we do have a rogue mafia, but I believe based just on how few guns are used in crimes that there are not that many guns in the illegal market either.

There may be other explanations for it, but European countries do have lower murder rates than the US. So pro-gun control makes the claim that the US has the highest murder rate of any 'developed' country, which is true, but they blame it on the availability of guns alone.

European countries have lower murder rates than the US: true.

I think you are correct. Though 'grenades' seem to be mostly Swedish, there has been an alarming trend in some other European countries of explosives targeted at people's doors.
Europe has about the same amount of fire arm incidents as the US. Usually the press suppress the info that it is higher than the US if you remove the jogger problem the US has to deal with.
I've never understood that argument. The obvious answer is that Europe has many fewer than the US.

As long as we are speaking English here: "fewer" guns.

You you have these guys that wander around and peddle goods and like to commit crimes.
Absolutely none of this is true.

Swedish Grenades is the hot new dish at Ikea restaurants.

If you're going to remove black crime from the US equation, you should remove immigrant crime from the European equation - which is most of our crime.
There's a logical conclusion to this measuring contest.
