yep, banning guns does mean that there are less guns sold on the regular market, and therefore obtaining one is harder. however, this only works in a country that has tightly secured borders and is not infested with rogue mafia.
That has been my hypothesis as well. European borders are not exactly 'tightly secured', and we do have a rogue mafia, but I believe based just on how few guns are used in crimes that there are not that many guns in the illegal market either.
