Seeing that establishment approved bwaphog flailing her legs around on stage for all those dimwits still gullible enough to participate in this state circus could be funny, were it not for the abject visceral disgust that would accompany such a viewing.
Don't circuses have to be, you know, entertaining to serve their purpose? Then again I'm an outlier since I don't enjoy watching any sports.
IMHO the purpose of circuses is to distract. As long as you're preoccupied with inane shit you won't focus your attention on the powers that be.
Agreed, and in the 21st century a lot of the “circus” is getting people riled up over meaningless BS related to popular entertainment rather than just straight up providing entertainment — I think the powerful have realized they can do more with less that way, i.e. provide fewer shows/movies/etc. but extend their ability to distract people by pushing the “controversy” related to them. Social media algorithms push content that is “controversial” but is largely empty and meaningless (articles about the Barbie movie at the moment, Velma and She Hulk and Rings of Power before), and old media obliges too by writing about such nonsense. The powers that be want you arguing some dumbass point over a TV show or a movie, because then you definitely aren’t seeing how you’re being screwed over in real life.
I can believe she's just a terrible person with a huge ego, but given how many assholes work in media, this level of drop leads me to two reasons for it:
There's WORSE shit she's done and everyone is distancing themselves from her before that's revealed
She's a useful idiot that outlived her usefulness and are dropping now to not spend anymore or need a distraction from something REALLY bad that's about to happen.
There are many disgusting people in media, but none are so self-evidently repulsive. It's possible that this is a Kerry Packer situation, where an aloof higher-up finally hears what they underlings are up to and nukes them from orbit out of sheer disgust.
