Like Brennus said, they are activists pushing ideology, there is no unsolicited opinion when it comes to them. Also, remember "everything is political". That's not commentary on the present, it's their vision for a perfect world where everyone is an activist for the cause. There should not be an out for you, no disconnect from everyday life, no escapism, "the work" is never over and you must contribute. How dare you have fun without thinking of everything "wrong" in the world (including you and/or your opinions, possibly)?!
Now take this line of thought and apply it to almost everywhere else. Some people just seem to have a compulsion to give their thoughts on something without being prompted.
To some extent it's the perfect situation for online bloggers because they are quite literally speaking into a faceless void/camera lens, so the fact they are "talking" to others just gives them a reasonably credible excuse to waffle for hours on end.
They wanted to write hard hitting commentary and "find the truth" at NYT or Washington ComPost but the only outlets that would employ them were pop culture ones.
Therefore, they use their job as a way to live out their failed dreams, hence the big push for politics at these websites that were supposed to just entertain people.
You know you're dealing with a Twitter-brained communist when you see le tom nook is the bad guy take. The man gives you a zero interest loan with no terms and even allows you to default on it without any repercussions, but they see the word "loan" and immediately go into an apoplectic fit for reasons they don't understand.
Oh, they understand perfectly. It's a trigger word for their own student loans that they've made zero effort to repay, despite payments and interest being paused for three fucking years.
Well, your options are pretty wide ranging. They are such an easy genre to make, they have pretty significant amounts of shovelware, much like the various "simulator" games.
I'm genuinely shocked to not just see a non-controversial, positive take on Death Stranding, but to see it in this article with absolutely no digs whatsoever at anyone other than a vague "we fall short of helping each other at times."
Its an almost worthless little fluffpiece that says nothing about the game or even America (other than its set in America), but its neutrality speaks volumes.
To be fair, it's hard to extract alternate interpretations from Death Stranding when Kojima beats you over the head with "symbolism" such as a courier corporation connecting a fractured United States called "Bridges" and a man with a broken heart called "Heartman".
You haven't watched normie game content creators, who are contractually obligated to play every AAA game the moment it comes out, try and even explain the game. Let alone extract the meaning from it.
You and I think its pretty fucking heavy handed, but given what I've seen clearly it wasn't heavy enough.
Also apologies for the shitty screenshot but Kotaku decided to format this as a fucking slideshow so they could display more ads.
"You're only ten ads away from viewing our epic deconstruction of capitalism and how it harms marginalized trans folx!"
“…I wish I was 20 ads away…”
I’ll never understand why they think gamers want their unsolicited political commentary
Because they are not gamers, and they are not journalist. They are Marxist pushing propaganda
The Pulitzer Prize—the so-called award for journalistic excellence—was created by a sensationalist who instigated the Spanish–American War.
It's an award they give to each other for doing whatever it is that they do -- really well. In that case I guess it was instigating a war.

True. These are the people that go livid if you suggest escapism.

That has to be it. Because these people give these pretentious lectures about how everything has to address some major issue

Mediocrity feels as journalistic as ideologically driven opinion pieces.
Damn, I was wondering why I loved tycoon games so much. Guess it is because I am a true American.
I’ve been meaning to try one of those

Considering the state of the west may I suggest Cartel Tycoon?
Implying I dont already own it and enjoy it.

I’m surprised that Kotaku actually shits on Bioshock Infinite for one. Especially when Infinite received the most songs and praises from Kotaku.
