Novelty theory is an idea conceived and promoted by Terence McKenna, a psychedelic explorer and visionary, who claimed that the universe is not a random and chaotic place, but rather a structured and creative process that generates increasing levels of complexity and novelty over time.
According to McKenna, novelty is the degree of difference or uniqueness that something has compared to what came before it. Novelty can be found in nature, culture, art, technology, and human consciousness. Novelty theory proposes that novelty increases exponentially as time progresses, reaching a point of infinite novelty at the end of time.
McKenna based his theory on a mathematical analysis of the I Ching, an ancient Chinese book of divination that uses 64 hexagrams to represent the patterns of change in the cosmos. He claimed that the I Ching reveals a hidden fractal structure of time that can be used to predict the occurrence of major events in history and the future. He also associated his theory with the Maya calendar, which ends on December 21, 2012, suggesting that this date marks the culmination of novelty and the transition to a new mode of existence. I think that date marked the start of the current age shift.
One of the implications of novelty theory is that we are living in a time of unprecedented change and transformation, where new possibilities and challenges emerge every day. McKenna believed that this is especially true in light of the development of artificial intelligence, which he saw as a potential catalyst for a radical shift in consciousness and reality. He argued that AI could either be a threat or an ally for humanity, depending on how we interact with it and what values we instill in it.
What do you think about novelty theory? Have you noticed an increase of novelty in your own life and in the world around you? How do you cope with the accelerating pace of change? What role do you think AI will play in the evolution of novelty?
Have you heard the tale of slaanesh? Do you know what over saturation of stimuli and chasing those novelty highs will bring us to? What you are describing is a hell.
Everything is getting less novel and more derivative, so there you have it
There is nothing new under the sun.
Only a fucking boomer could come up with such tripe.
Your theory was proposed by a professional drug addict.
We prefer Psychonaut. Come and join us at Erowid
Holy shit that site still exists! I thought it was the shit when I was 14. Then I read an “experience” where a bunch of woman shoved acid up their asses and vaginas and I thought, you know, maybe these people aren’t the ones I should look up to…
Psychonaut.Wiki is a lot more professional and formalised. But Erowid has some very useful information especially when it comes to drug interactions.
Had a look at the TWZ wave and the wave goes no further than 2012 (which is when the woke cancer took over) so...
Perhaps the Mayan calendar predicted the rise of wokeness.
I studied stuff like that while in highschool. I calculated the amount of drugs you had to be to do this.
I mean, my teacher was on drugs, so we could use her as a base.
I feel like this is a ChatGPT post.
It's my thoughts, but I had bingAI edit it
Hah, guess it just goes to show, I've seen a lot of shoops in my time.
Entropy. The more complex a system the more entropy present or something to that effect.
As to entropy, I see it accumulating through all the chaos in our governments, streets, and families.
Pray something happens to bring order out of the chaos with as minimal a loss of life as possible.
Probably nothing good. The technology and everything leading up to AI has led to this mess.
"If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"
Skynet looms large
Things do not get more complex without a human mind.
Second Law of Thermodynamics. Shit breaks down, yo.
I think it refers more to the combinatorial factors of increased individuals. Think of it as when you're by yourself you have a limited range of experiences. Add another person and all of a sudden you can do a lot more novel things. Add 100 people and the novelty increases exponentially. Add 6 billion people using AI and it goes off the chart.
There is nothing new under the sun.
AI will finally shut the tradcucks up about birth rates. There'll be less jobs than people because of it and population reduction will be a good thing.
I think a lot of the new things will die off, like Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality, but AI will change things for the better, as long as we keep the enemy out of the coding.
