Want to bring back a (at least) temporary reinstatement of the KIA2 movie club on https://cytu.be/r/KIA2MovieClub
Will do the top 2 recommendations, remember that uniqueness brings the most viewers as well as quality. Will be doing the two time viewership as well with the top two time votes under EST translations. 9 pm est worked well for most people before, but am willing to go by the “democratic” vote.
My personal votes are for either the top gun and top gun maverick, or Jaws and Independence Day because fuck you.
Jurassic Park came out 30 years ago, almost to the day (6/11/93).
That’s definitely a great selection, the animatronics still feel so lifelike
Yeah it aged better than any of the newer movies.
Still remember I had a "making of jurassic park" documentary I recorded off the TV I used to watch as a kid. Probably watched that thing more than the movie itself, I was so fascinated by it.
I played a lot of the SNES Jurassic Park port, which involved a lot of Wolfenstein-style shooting sections firing missiles at raptors with Muzak playing in the elevator between floors.
That was a great game I remember renting when I was a kid. Had the outdoor RPG-ish elements and the indoor FPS elements. Hard as shit IIRC since there weren't any game saves.
I think I borrowed it from a cousin.
It's a game I played a lot but never actually made any progress, likely because of the lack of saving like you said.
I would have guessed Jurassic Park was even earlier, based on how young I remember being.
I recall my father taking me three separate times to the theater to watch it, because the first two times it sold out (RIP Dad).
It was also a time when our town had 3 distinct cinemas before every movie theater became a corporate cookie-cutter megaplex.
I wasn't allowed to watch it until I read the book, because my mom thought it might be too violent/mature.
Which to this day is logic I don't understand, because the book is way more violent/mature than the movie, and she read the book before I did and must have known this was the case.
I guess it's the same logic that Playboy was a taboo cardinal sin, but romance novels were sold at every grocery store and airport newstand and totally kosher to read in public.
The book is literally horror. The movie is (at least partly) classed as “Adventure”, I believe…
So yes. Very much yes!
Good choice. And for the 2nd movie I vote something more obscure and underrated: Frailty (2001)
In the spirit of the collapse of the United States, I'm going to recommend only bad movies.
Deep Blue Sea. It's a narrative disaster, the premise is Faucian and the effects are so so. But it's hilarious to watch L L Cool J act his absolute ass off trying to save that movie and by association his attempt to break into acting. Shame because he's actually not bad in the film. Bonus points for what I suspect is the first appearance of Stellan Skarsgard since Hunt For Red October, a movie I highly recommend to anyone who doesn't enjoy laughing at garbage as much as I do.
Similarly, Godzilla, 1998. It's an awful movie that loses track of how big the monster is in every single shot, and on top of that it has at least two endings back to back so it's about half an hour longer than it needs to be. If the Lion King is the movie that got Matthew Broderick back into the business(you know, after killing all those people), this is the movie that got him kicked out again. Bonus points for having half the cast of the Simpsons as side characters, and they're the only people even trying to act the whole time. The female lead actress is either drunk or high in every scene and I'm pretty sure the movie killed any career she might have had.
And lastly, the best bad movie of all, Super Mario Brothers. No introduction needed here, this movie is a well known trainwreck. Bob Hoskins was reportedly drunk every waking moment of filming this disaster and it still stands to this day as a shining example of why you don't give popular IPs to people who weren't already fans.
How dare you besmirch Deep Blue Sea.
How about WarGames?
I saw that movie again recently, and it holds up SO well.
I won't be around this weekend, but have fun. I'll try to catch the next one.
Hopefully we can find a format that keeps people interested, maybe going from monthly themes to weekly two picks will help
eh i forgot a lot of movies. but if it counts why not a few vids from magnatesmedia.
I watched Top Gun Maverick recently, so I'd say Top Gun.
But Lgbtbbq has a point, and I haven't watched Jurassic Park in ages.
So I'll go #1 Jurassic Park and #2 Top Gun
Nice to see the movie club coming back together!
Side notes: planning for this Saturday, the 10th, if that impacts your choices. No theme necessary for selecting, just throw in your #1 and # 2 and we can crowdsource the winners
Do The Good, The Bad, The Weird some time.
Is there a list to vote from or are people just shouting out suggestions?
Let's all watch 'The Flash' and critically examine it for its cinematographic qualities.
Yeah, I didn't think so. ;)
Maybe it is me but that link isn't working after the verification.
Odd, it goes to it right away for me without being logged in, that’s on my phone though, will look into it.
Well it works now, so if you changed something that did it!
Good to hear! Probably because I relogged in as admin, it’s been on Halloween movies for awhile
Can you get John Wick 4?
Jokes aside, good luck!
