I’ll keep beating this drum. “We just want to be left alone”. Or I remember people saying when gay characters started to pop up in noticeable numbers that I was making a big deal over a few characters and at the time I thought maybe I was overreacting

Libertarianism is a peacetime ideology for a peace that will never exist. The culture war is eternal. Government is eternal. The moment you stop trying to dominate these institutions, someone else will seize them and ruthlessly wield them against you. Your only options are to rule or be ruled.

As a Christian i can’t believe everything I’ve seen in my 42 years. I remember as a young teen hearing my grandfather lamenting the state of the world and me thinking he was going overboard and didn’t take him as seriously as I should’ve

That's the folly of youth, thinking that your elders are overreacting and out of touch. Only when we find ourselves in the role of "elder" do we realize how right they were.

The elders were wrong. Things were worse than they thought.

Yea this is part of the reason I try not to be too harsh with teens. I was once a dumb teenager who thought my parents were clueless

She thinks I'm crazy, but I'm just growing old

-Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan (1980)

One of the worst things this modern society has done is convince the young that there is nothing worthwhile to gain from listening to the generations that came before them. They have been convinced to discard ideas simply because they are 'old' and from the past. Therefore, every subsequent generation has to learn that hard earned knowledge all over again at quite the cost.

Yep. Also a good Bob Dylan lyric from My Back Pages “I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now”.

Here's the thing: all the ones that want to be left alone? Yeah, they're just minding their own business. However, if you don't understand the concept of "ulterior motives", I can understand where you're coming from.

I understand the concept. Definitely back then I was very naive and assumed that was enough

To be honest I think you still have some of that in you. You're simply too nice and need to find your fangs.

I’m guilty of rose colored glasses for sure. Or I know how things are but I try to assume the best in everyone. Funny you say that because in boot camp my drill sergeant said something similar to me
