Here's the thing: all the ones that want to be left alone? Yeah, they're just minding their own business. However, if you don't understand the concept of "ulterior motives", I can understand where you're coming from.
I’m guilty of rose colored glasses for sure. Or I know how things are but I try to assume the best in everyone. Funny you say that because in boot camp my drill sergeant said something similar to me
The rub that makes things tough for us Christians is that politics is, by nature, something that requires one to get their hands dirty and make decisions or take actions that will cause harm to someone and more than likely run afoul of the tenets of our belief system. And of course we are to show mercy, temperance, and those other Christian virtues to everyone, friend and enemy alike. These beliefs often run completely counter to the actions a political entity must take if it wants to survive and thrive be it a local county or a global empire.
I of course think such Christian virtues are good, but I'd be a fool if I didn't acknowledge that they often get "in the way" of political gains.

I understand the concept. Definitely back then I was very naive and assumed that was enough
To be honest I think you still have some of that in you. You're simply too nice and need to find your fangs.
