America has a lot of ghost towns right? Why not set up a scheme where vets get to live in these places and ownership if they fix up the place. That way you are bringing a lot of these towns back into the economy and vets get a place to live and kept busy to help with their issues.
Would be a nice thing to do really. I always felt that my personal issues were not something I would think of when I keep my hands busy. I just don't know about general things like food etc, how would that work?
Basic Commissary would do the trick there.
People who have the wherewithal and reliability to homestead are not homeless.
This is more an idea with vets than the homeless in blue cities mostly, just like it as an idea that revitalises run down towns and essentially turning them into a veteran community than the current state of affairs.
This. As I said in a comment below, alot of homeless people want to be homeless. They want to be free of responsibility and be able to drink/do drugs. The homeless vets who worked or went through the programs earnestly didn't stay homeless for long.
Anyone literate enough to write that sign can easily get a job. We have a labor shortage.
All the people who do this are liars & crackheads, anyway. It's just a grift.
We spend hundreds of billions per year on the VA. Veterans in this country get insane benefits, it's basically a socialist paradise for them.
I don't agree with you on a lot but you are not wrong here. I worked with homeless veterans as a vet a couple years back and they fell into three categories.
The dudes who would go out with signs or cups did not want to work period. Any change given would go straight to cigarettes, alcohol or coffee. They had no intention of finding a job or fixing any of their issues.
The guys who either already had a job or were just pushed out by batshit s/o's would continue or find work and get out of the shelter extremely quick. They would never be caught dead with a sign.
The last group were guys who were living innawoods and only came back because of medical issues. They usually would get fixed up, make some money to get more supplies and then go back to the woods. They also would never beg or use a sign.
A lot of vets are mentally damaged from the military also. Its one of the reasons I'm against joining.
All of that sounds right.
How could you possibly know that?
I only hear complaints about the VA.
The VA is the closest thing the US has to a socialized medicine system and as you can imagine it's a death trap. Not to mention the overseers do a very good job of making sure injuries sustained while indentured are not covered.
life experience
Welcome to socialism. People know that complaints = more money. It's incentivized in a socialist western system to scream your little lungs out about how terrible things are to get more funding for your own budget.
So you don't, because "life experience" in no way qualifies you to make judgments about all people like that. You just have an interest in pretending that the American system is fair to everyone.
Any negative comment about any European country is quickly silenced, because they know they either have to silence the people complaining or fix it. And they're not planning on fixing it.
Polls literally do this all the time, by using samples to get a bigger picture.
Not really. I don't care. I'm against the welfare state. I think America's welfare state sucks & should be torn down. I'd be 100% okay with "veterans" living on the streets for real if the lazy fucks won't get jobs.
But that's not the reality. the reality is that US taxpayers pay many hundreds of billions of dollars every year to make people like this not real. These are just grifters. If this guy wasn't lying, he would have endless amounts of help from US taxpayer funded socialist bullshit.
The difference is in Europe the socialists already won. In America we're still fighting over it. So this is how it works here. Also Republicans have been cucks on shit like saying no to "veterans", creating perverse incentives.
We threw insane amounts of money at veterans over "burn pits" even though it was total bullshit.
But how likely is it that however broad your personal experience is, it covers everyone who is in this sort of situation? A labor shortage does not just exist because people don't want to work, but skills demanded do not always fit skills reuqired.
But you know nearly no one else is. So you'll say that it's fair, so that they won't demand that people actually be treated fairly. The homeless issue in the US is bad enough as it is, not just for them, but also with the reign of terror they inflict on other people. I have never seen any European city with American-style homeless people being aggressive.
Like what? $300 a month in welfare checks if he has a kid? That's not even enough to cover health insurance.
You believe in Havana Syndrome but not 'burn pits'? Maybe they should spread rumors that Russia dunnit.
If I'm only right 99% of the time, that's fine with me. If I needed 100% certainty to say things, I'd never be able to say anything about anything.
Because the Euros arrest their asses. Democrats refuse to do that.
Go ahead and LARP as a "crazy homeless person" in any big Euro city & watch how fast the cops get on you. Republicans do this in the US. Democrats do not because ideologically they need to worship the homeless & use them as some kind of statement against capitalism. You only see this rampant homeless shit in the deepest blue cities.
And it has gotten MUCH worse since I was younger. You basically didn't see this at all in the 80s or 90s. Maybe a smaller amount in the 00s, then it exploded together with all the rest of the libtard insanity that hit America in the last 10-15 years.
LOL dude California pays $200/mo in food stamps alone. Medi-Cal is 100% free health care for all poors. There are tons of other government gibs. You get a lot more if you have kids, but even single men get plenty.
And if you're a veteran? Holy shit do the floodgates open. You can get disability for life even if you're not actually disabled & even if you have a job. It's a total scam.
As a veteran, I am sick of all of the gibs that other veterans demand. The vast majority of vets transition out of the military just fine, but there's always a subset who beg and demand free shit from both individuals and the government. I can't even read the veterans subreddit because the posts generally fall into one of three categories: 1. Woe is me, my life is shit. 2. Yay, the VA is giving me more gibs. 3. Griping about the government not giving vets more gibs. So no, I don't want more tax money given to homeless vets any more than any other homeless group.
I'd rather the government not give my money to either money pit.
If you're in need, you don't get finicky and demand soy milk in particular.
they're supporting the homeless veterans...
by creating more of them.
Serve no one.
Don't risk life and limb to further the financial interests of the monied class.
Correct.
