I don't agree with you on a lot but you are not wrong here. I worked with homeless veterans as a vet a couple years back and they fell into three categories.
The dudes who would go out with signs or cups did not want to work period. Any change given would go straight to cigarettes, alcohol or coffee. They had no intention of finding a job or fixing any of their issues.
The guys who either already had a job or were just pushed out by batshit s/o's would continue or find work and get out of the shelter extremely quick. They would never be caught dead with a sign.
The last group were guys who were living innawoods and only came back because of medical issues. They usually would get fixed up, make some money to get more supplies and then go back to the woods. They also would never beg or use a sign.
A lot of vets are mentally damaged from the military also. Its one of the reasons I'm against joining.
All of that sounds right.
