Who was upset about Twilight? At the time the books came out I was working in an office that was like 75% female and a lot of them were reading it so I bought the books out of curiosity and read the series. I don’t recall any men being angry about it. The author wrote something that appealed to a lot of young women/teens. No issue with that. My beef is that there seems to be an issue writing something for boys or men today
Ironically, most people I knew that were angry about it were other women. Because they hated Bella for revealing how boring they all were.
And because they were super mad everyone was making fun of their vampire husbands for sparkling, despite the Anne Rice women being just as cringe as Twilight ever was.
The best way to describe Anne Rice is that she hated the idea of Tom Cruise as the main character for the adaptation of her book because he wasn't hot enough like she wanted, then saw it and became so horny for him she 180'd and started putting out ads in the newspaper out of her own money about how amazing he was.
She is the epitome of "go make your own" for girls who want to touch themselves to vamps.
The younger generations were laughing constantly about it. The relationships were cringy and borderline abusive, and the mythos was an absurd fanfiction that tainted vampires and werewolves for a whole generation. Oh, and the love interests were both underage (being an immortal teenager still means you're a teenager) yet grown woman all over the world were fauning over them.
There's a version / novela from Edwards prospective. It's a big difference because he's telepathic. From other perspectives ( Bella's in both book or movie) Edward speaks very little. But, in his book he speaks, and he's opinionated, and he's an entirely different character after reading his book.
And, because he was raised in the past he doesn't think like the teenage boy he's pretending to be.
I found a copy online for free. It was a long time ago, but I remember being made the series wasn't from Edwards point of view. His thought are much more interesting.
I think you might be remembering 50 Shades, which also did the exact same "repeat the story but from the guy's perspective" plot (because why stop copying after you become a millionaire) to a big controversy for revealing both how creepy he was and ruining the mystery of their perfect boyfriend.
I'm sure the Twilight one did the same, but by then no one cared to even get mad.
This article doesn't have a date. But, just an FYI Stephanie Meyers is Mormon. She wrote that series as a young adult book, with Mormon values. If you weren't aware," 50 shades of Grey" was originally Twilight fan fiction because most of the readers complained that it was entirely too PG. But, it was designed to be PG material!
As an adult I don't usually choose to read books designed for teens. But, I read the series so I could see the movie. I read the book knowing it was a book that could be found in a Christian book store. It's the best novel you'll ever find in a Christian bookstore, and I've read plenty. Most wouldn't even consider having paranormal characters or plots without praising the lord.
This article is as ignorant as adults reading a book for kids, and then complaining that it wasn't up to the romance book standards their usual reads. Btw, this was a huge discussion at the time in the romance reading community. It's very strange that this article is ignoring all of these facts. Because between them, and now there's been a whole lot of drama in the reading / publishing community.
I had to look that up, I had never heard of it. It says there's crossover fan fiction, but the two aren't connected in the same way twilight is connected to 50 shsdes.
I think your friend is an uninformed idiot. Because they sent you an article that completely ignores that abstinence before marriage was one of the main goals of the story.
They're just mad because the women in the movies are still hot and desirable and they look like an old cat lady that was hit by a locomotive in their youth (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUc5ZNEHIn8)

Haven’t read any Ann Rice but recently bought some of her books at a yard sale

You're right, I don't recall anyone being upset. It was more a case of this is just gay and lame.

Midnight Sun right? Is it worth getting?

Reminder that she rewrote it, reversed the sexes, and because of that, the publisher refused to market or advertise the new books.
The series is called "Life and Death: A Twilight Tale," if I recall.
Didn't she received a lot of hate for this if i'm not wrong?

As far as I'm aware, no, not for these specific versions. Probably due to the aforementioned lack of marketing and thus lack of sales.
In fact, I first learned about them through a 4chan post.

I read somewhere Twilight was Harry Potter fan fic so it's tumblr tier fan fic shit all the way down.

Of course she's an uninformed idiot, she's a feminist!

Fanfic is not a gender.... (yet, I suppose)

the movies were from 10-15 years ago, how is it any relevant in the current year

I don't think anyone was angry about it, more that it produced a feeling of melancholy because of how bland it was.
