We are witnessing another moral-panic with retards trying to make another word taboo. For absolutely nothing.
There is no widespread negativity associated with "JRPG". A handful of presstitutes who hate gamers and spoke in an unflatering way of JRPGs don't represent gamers, and is no reason to avoid a word.
Yet you have the fee-feels brigade claiming "language evolves, you can use another word that isn't offensive".
No. Fuck-off. Stop nitpicking everything to summon offense out of thin air.
Dev did a video on this a few weeks back along with some shameless gloating that he's one of the reasons Phil Fish hasn't done anything after Fez thanks to his video on him (which touche, that's a community service)
Yeah it's the same 'game journalists' that are calling it racist to 'approiate another's culture' that used to mock and belittle Japanese devs especially JRPGs a lot compared to the western RPGs of you Fallout and Mass effect etc. Unfortunately that stigma affected Japanese devs a lot.
Thanks for the video link I missed that one. Yes it's the same people who now virtue signal about diversity that were the obnoxious racists that called you a weirdo for playing import carts in the past.
Unfortunately that stigma affected Japanese devs a lot.
I don't believe them. For once I have to agree with u/dekachin this guy is being a drama queen.
Hopefully your right, but we do know if not this, there's a lot of harassment on Japanese manga, anime and game devs by the Twitter freaks because they still make cute/sexy women.
Fish was a douche, but his complaints were valid ones. It goes without saying of course.. I mean look where we are, but fuck game journalists. God only knows how his story would have gone if his tantrum happened after 2014.
How much of it is urinalists hating JRPGs for being successful and not bending to woke ideology? Sexy women, heroic men, stories that did not involve "toxic masculinity", "the patriarchy" or white men are evil and stupid?
I've never heard someone in real life or even in games online that used JRPG as bad, at most you find people that say they never got in to them.
There was a period when every FPS was called a DOOM-clone and now we're at the point of boomer shooter being a term. Horror games have their own subgenre of mascot horror and the genre as a whole is all the worst for it. Rogue-like and rogue-lite are both terms that exist because the best way to summarize a "procedural based levels with permadeath" is to name it after a game from 1980. Crying about a term that really refers to "anime aesthetic, indirect combat, and narrative featuring a character with a full story" makes you look like a whiny bitch.
What a dumb little bitch, fuck you Naoki Yoshida, trying to LARP as a jogger or tranny.
Dude looks creepy as fuck, too. He's an old man with hair intentionally modeled on young men at "host" clubs. It's a painfully cringe attempt to look young and cool, and I can't imagine any old man would do that unless he was trying to fuck young girls either at work or at hostess clubs.
JRPG and WRPG are different genres, with different sets of norma mechanics and structures. Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy 7 are great examples of each, and they are not the same genre. Some people like one, others the other. There is nothing objectively wrong with either. People condemning one and lauding the other are expressing their own taste.
If there ever was a reason for JRPG to be a disparaging term, its because we spent long console generations with all of them being almost interchangable and unappealing to anyone but a specific niche.
Fuck journos but you can't be upset that your company, and especially the franchise that you are attaching yourself to, is a creatively bankrupt pit of "why nobody like more belts, longer cutscenes, and the same story again?" They've not been able to beat "4 niggas in a line" as their peak game design, and every break away from it has failed.
Like, I play a lot of JRPGs but if you play more than one a year its mindnumbing. Which wouldn't be a problem, but the Japs don't understand brevity is an option. So every game must be 100+ hours minimum, even if you are replaying and know how to run past it.
At least Kojima let's you skip cutscenes, which is itself not a common fucking feature in JRPGs somehow.
I like JRPGs. Some are bad, but on a general level.
I dislike WRPGs. Some are okay, but on a general level.
The label is useful. They're fundamentally different. If you're some weird-haired kid who tries to fix his missing father's workbench alongside your standoffish but affectionate female childhood friend, that somehow turns into needing to kill God in order to restore order to the planet, that's a JRPG.

Bro, shut up.

I mean, that's a legit reason if it works. But yeah.
lol for once I agree. Dude gets worshipped way too much too.

Yeah I don't use it, and I don't play 'em. Any more.
