When Benedict was still Pope, I agreed with the criticisms that he was too fundamentalist and that his dogma wasn't relevant anymore to the modern world. Since then, I feel like I've gained more perspective. I've seen Francis' comments, the changes to Western society that he endorses. I've seen Christianity lose even more influence in the face of the Atheistic movement than it did under Benedict's strict interpretation of Scripture. And I've seen what people start to worship once there is no longer a religion to stabilize them, once there is no longer anything to worship above the self and false idols. Even as an atheist myself, it's utterly obvious that society is not better off now than when we still relied on Judaeo-Christian morality to ground society, like we still did when I was a child.

I wish Benedict had never resigned. Had he remained as Pope, perhaps his voice would have helped to stem the tide of insane postmodernism that's dominated since. I hope the worst happens to Francis, so that we can be rid of that cancer as soon as possible.

Pope Francis is a heretic, and I say that as an Atheist.

I agree, but there is no guarantee that the same would not have happened under Benedict. I do think that going along with the flow robs the Church of any influence. Because if the Catholic Church is just Social Justice, what need for Catholicism? You can just go for the real thing.

Even as an atheist myself, it's utterly obvious that society is not better off now than when we still relied on Judaeo-Christian morality to ground society, like we still did when I was a child.

Painful to admit, but I agree.

Religion is supposedly 'ridiculous', but without it, we now believe that men are women and that 'polyamory' is something that should be respected.

Had he remained as Pope, perhaps his voice would have helped to stem the tide of insane postmodernism that's dominated since

Worse than anything Francis has done is probably his appointments.

I wonder every day if religion is the lesser evil.

Do some people really need to believe in a magic afterlife and supreme being to not fuck animals, or loot a target?

The answer is not immediately “no” which is absurd.

I wonder every day if religion is the lesser evil.

It's not even an "evil." It's a technology. If society has a good one, it'll build civilization. If it doesn't, it'll tear itself apart.

"Don't fuck animals, don't eat animals that eat shit and anything else it can find, Don't fuck your own gender because you'll get diseases that are incurable Don't jack off because you're wasting seed, don't fuck your cousins because it'll fuck up the gene pool, don't worship idols because they're fake and gay and don't do anything and require human sacrifice, don't kill your fellow man, don't covet your fellow man's things because you will eventually try to take it after fantasizing how to obtain it; you will eventually give in to your lusts."

Among others.

The human brain seems to be hard wired to believe in some sort of higher power. If people dont believe in God then that often leaves a vaccum that something else will fill. You can already see that happening with people treating science, big daddy government or even atheism itself like some sort of dogma.

I'd like to think that the Vatican hasn't already fallen so low, and that he's one of the most extreme leftists there.

Jesuits. Francis is the first Jesuit pope. Jesuits vow not to seek the papal office.
