The libs always do this. It's part of their NPC programming. It's borne from the fact that they are laser-focused on the attainment of power and see truth as nothing more than a game of manipulation to attain their goals.
So no matter how much their heap praise on any Republican [McCain, Romney] suddenly he is public enemy #1 once he becomes an obstacle to their power.
Conversely, as soon as someone poses a lesser practical threat [Trump, who the libs now see as super easy to beat and in fact they'd love to keep running against him forever if they could, hence the 1/6 committee], the libs PRETEND that this person isn't so bad anymore, if only to make unfavorable comparisons to the new target.
This is just how the lib hive mind works. We on the Right have called them out for doing this for a long time, and they can't help themselves. It's in their code.
All this means is that they've started to realize that DeSantis will be the nominee in 2024 and they're scrambling to play defense.
I'm old enough to remember the absolutely deranged, vitriolic hatred for Bush and how he was Literally Confederate Crusader Hitler who got off on the tears of innocent Iraqis and liked to wash his meals of brown baby flesh with equal-parts oil and blood, before he became the principled and 'truly compassionate conservative' elder statesman & moderate bulwark against Orange Man's populism who is also a great painter that he is to the very same libs who thought he was the absolute worst barely a decade ago.
I now sincerely hope to live long enough to see at least one figurehead of the right turn out to be exactly as 'bad' as the NPC programming guild that we call 'the media' proclaim, and that they have so thoroughly burned their credibility to the ground by then that nobody will give a shit when he actually starts throwing them out of helicopters, cleaning out ghettoes the Mongol way, stacking LGBTQP+++ skulls into pyramids along the National Mall, etc.
I remember when they said the same thing about Newt Gingrich.
pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease
And just like that, Donald 'Literally Hitler' Trump, the white nationalist fascist who was going to start world war 3, genocide non-whites, and make women's lives just like a Handmaid's Tale is now an 'eccentric' with 'soft edges'.
It's as hilarious as it is tiresome.
And the NPC's will fucking swallow it all. 2024, some dipshit will having the exact same conversation with me that I had in 2016 with some moron insisting Trump was a Nazi.
My god, they are really super fucking salty. He did the one thing they believed the right would never do, attack their safe space. All I can say is send more illegals.
What's the meta here? Do they think DeSantis is going to be the candidate? Are they purposefully denigrating DeSantis hoping to boost his numbers?
It's afraid!
NYT is afraid, but not because of DeSantis particularly. They are afraid that people don't read them much anymore and that they've lost control of both parties. Some of their people want to split both parties by spinning out overtly socialist and overtly fascist parties.
I honestly don't know.
I can't tell if DeSantis is for real or if he's a stooge that the establishment have picked to keep Trump out.
He's genuine, but the White House has a way of defeating reformers. The real test is how he handles internal threats from the FBI, CIA, DOJ, and State Department bureaucrats.
He's already shown himself capable of defending himself from the press.
They want to create a messy primary battle in the GOP, because the Dems will almost certainly have one.
They don't care who wins. It's a divided opposition they want.
What they really fear is Trump + DeSantis ticket.
DeSantis is seen as a more reasonable, competent, effective Trump, but less electable; he's 44 which is very young for a President, 5'9" shorter than Little Macro, and he doesn't have that stage charisma. They're not worried about him at the top of the ticket.
DeSantis VP would be a huge boost to Trump because he's a guy people wouldn't pick as their first choice, but most from either side would be fine with taking over in case Trump goes nuts or dies as opposed to Pence and Kamala which were VPs of mutually assured destruction (if you 'first strike' our Pres you'll regret it). He's the control rod not the second strike.
Trump/DeSantis is probably an unbeatable ticket even with cheating.
Orange State Man Badder.
I'm old enough to remember how George W. Bush was portrayed as the devil himself some 20 years ago.
Now he's the nice old man that sneaks candy to Michael Obama.
Young wokies don't even register Bush in their radar. Old wokies will pretend they never hated him as much as the current republican honcho.
So the recognised that Desantis might be as 'bad' as Trump so engaging NPC program to call him worse than previously worse thing (Trump) but then if Trump wins 2024 then it defaults to Trump actually being the worse thing ever
Then there's us free thinkers just seeing a shade a grey and the only truly worse thing is all those that abuse and molest children, which a lot of them are in Democrat high office right now...
Oh, is Trump going to get the 'a strange new respect' treatment? I honestly thought they demonized him so harshly that he would never reach those lofty heights.
