We do need to abolish prisons. All punishments should be fines, beatings, or death.
Historically in Europe, that's what punishment was. Unless you're talking about the ruler throwing someone in a dungeon to die, prison or jail was just a temporary place to hold criminals until their punishment, or during another punishment like backbreaking slave labor. I don't know why it came into fashion to give adults a "timeout" to sit in the corner until they learn their lesson.
Quakers. The inventor of the penitentiary was William Penn, of Pennsylvania fame. The idea was to put people in a quiet place alone and allow them to become penitent before god. Penitent = penitentiary.
In other words, putting people in jail is religious torture. I'm surprised no one has tried to fight it on first amendment grounds.
But how will we keep the recidivism rates up?
I'm for exiling all violent criminals - after their sentence is served. In 10 years they can apply for a visa and get in line. In my system there would also be merit-based immigration with a sponsor required, so... good luck.

To the people downvoting, it is a known fact that first generation African immigrants for the most part can't stand American black culture.

Hey man, there's plenty you can do. First and foremost, raise kids who don't buy into the crap narratives that perpetuate the shitty culture. There's no way to solve the problem quickly as it takes generations to shift a cultural mindset.

Overturning Roe vs. Wade was 100% correct, because it was judges making up stuff. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to outlaw abortions entirely.
