Good, burn it down.
I'd have preferred that tbh, let gab and minds win the social media war with some market share for alternatives like fediverse and I guess gettr?
This move was also done right before truth social was meant to go live. Trump massively shot himself in the foot by not going with gab.
That's because Trump is a coward, a big mouth, nothing else.
and they also moved to canada when trump was elected.....
I don't know what to think.
On the one hand, this might be good for free speech. Remains to be seen what he does with it but he can't be worse than the people that currently run it.
On the other hand, this seems like a giant waste of money. Social media giants have peaked. Also, on a more general level, once companies get sold their value goes downhill. The only way forward is down, value-wise.
Leftist governments all over the world are also probably going to start suing him non-stop.
We'll see what happens, I guess.
Good luck, crazy, rich shitposter :D
Not sure about all social media in general but the giants are stagnant, old and boring. When was the last time Facebook or Twitter offered something new? It's only a matter of time before they end up being replaced by something new.
Well, if Elon is smart, he will do something fun with Twitter.
Something new and even worse than those two?
The dude has plenty of money and is doing this for shits. Don't concern yourself with him not making a return on his investment, the lulz he's experiencing right now are worth it to him alone.
And if you mean it's a waste of money in the "he could be giving it to charity" sense... I hope I don't have to explain why that's so dumb.
Nah, I'm done with charity. They've pretty much all been subverted by leftist grifters and the constant virtue-signalling everywhere is getting on my balls.
I was more thinking along the lines of that money could have been invested more wisely to benefit .... dunno ... political balance, freedom of speech, whatever.
I can't say I agree. How would you spend $43 billion to benefit free speech?
Twitter is the cheapest way to get a big platform with name recognition that people of all walks of life actually use. If you bring it back to free speech, not only have you made a large platform free speech focused, but if it is a successful endeavor and benefits the platform financially (as it surely will), you'll set a path forward for other companies.
Right now companies clearly believe that going woke is the only path to success. A lot of this is big investors who invest based on how woke a company is. We need to show that that can be changed.
He could pull a Soros and buy the actual real-world government from the local level up.
Not with just $43 bil he couldn't.
And I suspect that a Twitter acquisition has far more potential than "owning" $43 bil of local governments. Neither give you full control of the thing you bought, by the way.
Soros spends a few million here and there strategically to buy judges, DAs, etc. Or do like Zuckerburg and buy the election in swing states. 43 billion go a long way.
The other thing to consider is that his 43 billion didn't just vanish when he bought Twitter. He now has an asset worth 43 billion. If you buy off judges, DAs, etc., that's a one time thing. You cannot "resell" a bought judge.
I think Musk is counting on governments censoring him because he's going to then sell his starlink as a means around the government censorship. Twitter is the program to get people in the door with starlink.
"MOdRraTE sPeEcH"
Journalists fear the African-American man.
I'm not sure he can make it worse. I'm also not sure he can make it good enough I'll go back. It was my favorite of the social medias but I quit during the Saint Floyd fiasco as the parroting of white guilt was the last straw. I'm not sure any of that short thoughts with like/dislike is really healthy anyway.
It's a really perverted system, and I don't have any evidence (unlike with Facebook and Lifelog) but it seems like the perfect way for some "machine" operated by intelligence agencies or corporations to gather profiles on the beliefs, hopes, and dreams of everyone in the world and identify key influencers as points of entry to "seed" the network and manipulate those beliefs. In fact for that purpose it works best as very short messages of extremely emotive expressions.
As some people have said "authenticating all humans." is a bit worrying, depending on what is done with it (and if it is essentially used for government/corporate doxxing), but since I don't use Twitter and have no plans to start, it's popcorn time!
"authenticating humans" could be as simple as something like a captcha: to make sure you're actually a person and not a bot.
Yeah, but that doesn't do anything to stop the Mechanical Turks, like the wumao or JDIF. Still, it would be a good first step.
Slows them down a bit. Could make the problem a bit more manageable if you could eg. decrease shill throughput by an order of magnitude or two.
I think it's just going to be for bluechecks. However he might also make it so non-bluechecks can't reply.
Open the Gates!!!
Now we get to see if Muskowitz can actually make real what he's saying.
That troon better buy lottery tickets because its exactly right.
I can't say with any certainty what the future will hold, but right now it's fun to watch the mutants rage about their control being taken away from them.
I feel like this is a distraction. I don't trust Musk.
Im betting on the 40 percenters hitting 50 or better next year.
Lets see what happens, hoping for the best.
Ideally he would just unban every account that has ever been banned. Obviously that would also unban a lot of spam accounts, but he supposedly has plans to handle spammers better anyway.
My 10 year old account was banned for no reason last December, I have not made an evasion account. I’m now hoping I will never have to. We’ll see.
