Twitter is banning ads that "contradict the 'scientific consensus' [according to the UN] on climate change" (archive.ph)

This is so endlessly disingenuous. It's lying.

Scientific consensus has NEVER meant that dissenting opinions must be silenced! This is a fundamentally anti-science concept! Science happens when differing opinions meet and experiments are designed to determine the truth, to the best of our abilities.

These people may in fact be this stupid. I don't think so. I think they intentionally mis-educate our children in science, and then murder science and wear it's skinsuit to steal science's good name for their own ends.

Remember: the "scientific consensus" was that it was acceptable to jam an icepick behind your eye and turn your frontal lobe into scrambled eggs if you misbehaved.

Climate change is bad!

The majority of what you consider to be pollutants comes from the transpacific trade with China.

We should bring production back to America.

Racist!

That's been the goal from the beginning: Destroy the Western way of life. People don't give a shit where their energy comes from as long as it's cheap and reliable. So if they were really worried about climate change they would be focusing on getting green energy on par with fossil fuels. But that wouldn't disrupt people's lives so they're not doing it that way. It's telling that they're out to destroy hydroelectricity dams and nuclear power plants. It's even more telling that grifters like Al Gore and John Kerry fly around on their private jets without a care in the world while expecting the little people to uproot their lives.

They promised to stop! (By like 2030 or something) Obama said so, and it's in the Paris Climate Accords! Stupid DRUMPF backing out of that treaty that was never approved by the Senate. Thank the great queer one Biden put us back into it (again, without approval by the Senate). I'm sure the Chinese will follow through on their promise now.

The dumbest fucking thing is that science is a process that has to be constantly questioned and tested to give proper understanding of our universe.

Unironically we might not even know why and how gravity works, yet we interact with it every day.

'Scientific consensus' is no different than religious doctrine.

That's what I am trying to say. Everyone needs to quesiton everything all the time or else we fall into the trap of 'it's settled'.

Lefties think that as long as a group of nobodies decide upon something, it's true forever.

Wow! That’s crazy. You can’t even have a discussion about the environment because of alarmists. Plus look at all the young people who think they are being activists by droning on about climate change

if this was the 1600s, twitter would be banning galileo and newton because their scientific facts were against the "consensus"

much like how the "conspiracy theories" were so right about covid and yet banned from so much social media.

So reality has been banned... again.

It's just the next logical step. Now on top of disallowing people to freely post wrongthink, you also can't pay to have it allowed on the site.

I always get frustrated with climate discussions, because there are two very important things that I never see discussed:

  • Radiative heat loss is proportional to temperature to the 4th power.
  • CO2 concentration is the rate limiter for photosynthesis because Rubisco is a dumb protein. This means that doubling the concentration of CO2 approximately doubles the rate of photosynthesis.

These two things mean that it's pretty much impossible to have runaway greenhouse gas effects from CO2. There may be some local effects and ocean acidification (where iron concentration ends up being the photosynthetic rate limiter), but the planet isn't going to explode because we burn fossil fuels.

And no, methane release isn't an issue either because it only has an atmospheric half life of 9.1 years.

"You can't argue with science because we said so" Hey great, so when can we see science again. You got it locked in the basement and someone is wearing science like a cheap edgar suit spreading lies and going source: trust me. Did you know that in science we annually test things we already know to be true, just to be sure we know it the way we think we know it? Things like water can sustain life, but is itself not alive. Gravity still works the way we think it does. We devise testing to see if we still understand the world. And to say we can't have any discussion about it just screams anti science. I want my science back. Actual publicly verifiable evidence. This is just insane.
