Didn’t Rowling throw in that he was gay after she wrote the books? I’m becoming like my parents. They turn off a show when there is an lgbt character introduced. So tired of the overrepresentation. Not everything has to be in everything. Warehouse 13 was a great example of a gay character or Torchwood (granted I fast forwarded through kiss scenes). Although back then the representation obsession wasn’t what it is now.

Modern shows with black or female leads are suspect due to the messaging and any show with Hispanics now will most likely be an open borders lecture.

Thank goodness for classic tv options

Just double checking. I read the books when they came out and didn’t remember a black Hermoine or gay Dumbledore. I felt bad for her but like you said she was an “ally”

That’s what I thought when I first heard about the race swap. In the books a few black students are mentioned and it wouldn’t be hard to come up with original characters going to hogwarts. Also Harry dated an Asian girl too.

Actually that was before she was attacked by the trannies, but after the last book was written.

Somehow she realized pandering to the crazies wasnt good for women and turned on them.

Not to mention, Rowling was heavily involved in casting the films. If she envisioned Hermione as black, they wouldn't have cast Emma Watson.

Not sure if she had that much pull when it came to casting. What she did have sway over was the number of book covers that show a very white skinned Hermione.

Which is funny, because part of the reason people disliked Stranger Things was that they were implying the damsel in distress character was gay. By the time everyone else had girlfriends in season 3, he was completely neutered. They pushed hard for inclusion in every other category, including a lesbian, but the gay was relegated back to an NPC. It always seems to be the way, though. The moment lesbians get involved, especially white ones, gay men are disappeared.

For a show that paid homage to the 80s the reformed jock and nerdy girl romance made sense but now they had to subvert expectations and make her gay. I get what you are saying. He did seem disappeared but it’s clear that the show is following the modern day trend of pushing the women to the front. I don’t have Netflix anymore so I won’t be watching.

Never had it. So I will be watching, just not on Netflix.

I don't think it was subverting expectations, I think it was a joke on the jock. "Yeah, you're in the right position now, but you were a dickhead for a long time. So, fuck you still."

Yea if it came on now I wouldn’t watch it but it was a Dr Who spin-off and I hadn’t gotten tired or representation yet.

You really believe in something when you preach it where IT IS DIFFICULT.

Preaching LGBT in the US is like pushing on an open door

Someone from the twitter reply said:

I legit think the only way to enjoy mainstream movies at this point is to get the chinese cut. I might actually consider going back to the movies if this kind of edits were screened, even at a small premium.

I can just hear the reeeee from the left if someone started uploading "Don't Say Gay" editions of new movies and shows.
