Nebraska, due to lack of competitive edge among residents, advances bill that would require high school students have at least one credit of Computer Science to graduate. Chief among the bill's many class options: Computer Coding. Nothing about gender studies, diversity training, or journalism. (archive.ph)

Can't imagine why they might think computer sciences might be more important to their kids' futures than being a fat ugly lesbian with rainbow hair and bull ring through her nose.

In do honesty, being an ugly rainbow hair lesbian can get you good IT job.

Case in point, one thing that messed me up hard was being part of the hiring process at the company I worked for 4 years ago, I was part of a 2 guy team that tested potential new hires.

Imagine an incredibly ugly, neon orange hair fat chick deciding she does not want to take the technical test because she does not know this stuff and she got in and left after a few month, she was incredibly incompetent. She left for a better paying job.

On the other hand I had this young dude that loved tech, he had set up a cool system at home, I talked to him about it. He knew a lot of stuff but he was a bit green. I asked my managers to take him as he was clearly passionate and hard working, they passed him over claiming lack of experience.

After that I was done. It was killing what ever faith in humanity I had left.

I'm in the second guy's place. Can't get any good positions here, but diversity hires and visa workers so incompetent their contracts are practically never renewed. Learned bootstrap recently, and am at about the same level as this one with years of experience, even though I'm bad at web design.

They gotta get that ESG score up. The investor money is more important than the company functioning

I'm far away from expert, but I think you are on the right track. The way to survive in IT is to find some technologies that are in demand and specialize in them. Often affirmative action hires will learn only what they are taught, they do not need to specialize, so this makes it a bit easier for the rest of us as long as we put in some extra work. As an idea the team I work with is almost entirely white guys and some indians. This is not do to the company not being woke, they are all for diversity, diversity, diversity. But they only diversity we have are Indians, mostly from India.

There's a part of me that says your then employer did the second guy a favor by not hiring him. Places like that have a way of sucking the soul out of passionate guys.

Well, all the large IT companies seem to be the same with diversity. Even my leftist friends are complaining about that.
