I'm far away from expert, but I think you are on the right track. The way to survive in IT is to find some technologies that are in demand and specialize in them. Often affirmative action hires will learn only what they are taught, they do not need to specialize, so this makes it a bit easier for the rest of us as long as we put in some extra work.
As an idea the team I work with is almost entirely white guys and some indians. This is not do to the company not being woke, they are all for diversity, diversity, diversity. But they only diversity we have are Indians, mostly from India.
