I did not need any more reason to not see it. We already have diversity for diversity sake and they said they will focus more on Moiraine, cause why the fuck not.
Now they are changing the story to put in even more women.
Why in the world would I try to put myself thru this crap, I would rather watch paint dry.
I have a buddy who thinks that by the end Egwene is the one who does the true “Hero’s journey” he makes a great case. Anyway, The series already has equality of the sexes. Sorry it’s tangled and nuanced like real life and not easy enough to summarize to a Yale graduate.
Showrunner's favourite character is Egwene so that says it all. If the show somehow lasts until the end will be interesting to see what happens to her at the end.
Are you kidding? I finished the books earlier this year and it’s pretty clear the prophecy states that it is a man. This is the problem when you don’t hire people who actually want to adapt the book but instead take a crap on the source material and only talks about representation
Prophecy? Forget that, the whole goddamn story doesn't make sense if the Dragon Reborn can be a woman. So much of the plot requires the duality between men and women in order for it to work- mostly because male channelling turns the men literally insane.
Wow, that's just awful. I mean, that just destroys some of the core logic, lore, and plot of the series. Fuck this.
Without getting too much into spoilers, the entire post-Breaking history of the world has been dominated by the occasional rare MALE channeler who BELIEVES (or pretends) he is the Dragon Reborn. They are brutally put down by the Aes Sedai before they go mad, etc etc etc. The Dragon Reborn is, literally, Lews Therin Telamon reborn.
If a woman could have claimed to have been the Dragon Reborn, then in WoT cosmology there would have been women channelers attempting to seize power. The Aes Sedai mission to find channelers would need to operate completely different and on a completely different scale given the danger of a new Dragon.
They are brutally put down by the Aes Sedai before they go mad
Thing is this isn't even hyperbole. They literally go mad and they literally Broke the world. There are no metaphors happening here. The catastrophic fallout of the attempted sealing by Lews Therin and the 100 Champions because no female Aes Sedai would join them meant a literal Dark Ages because the world was repeatedly and literally set on fire, turned upside down, flooded, and every other Apocalypse level disaster you can think of. They're a genuine, tangible threat to the world continuing to exist and if left alone would potentially sink continents if they didn't kill themselves through burnout or inexperience channeling since post Breaking there are no more tutors for male channelers so fucking up will inevitably happen by Wilders.
I'd like to believe it's all an attempt to throw off the viewers, and make them think it's one of the females, but after seeing the casting, it's obvious this is the Woke of Time. If you haven't seen the write-up posted here a couple times now, it's hilarious. Just search for Woke of Time.
Well, they've completely trashed each the national identity of each nation by race swapping like crazy. They made Perrin, Nynaeve, and Siuan Sanche black. The books clearly described each nation and the physical characteristics of each. They intentionally ignored that in the casting.
What I was thinking. There are already non whites in different parts of the world that they meet up with. This is why race swapping is an indication of laziness amongst other things
Disagree. The "original sin" of WoT is not that "men bad, women good" but that the books portray "men and women are different, AND men and women work well together."
There's one scene in one of the books when the Two Rivers villagers are working together. The men are trying to be tough and take care of the women, the women are trying to be tough and take care of the men. The point is, they're different yet they all worked TOGETHER in different ways for the common good.
Wokeness is "fuck yeah girl power, men suck"
So yeah, this series loosk to be trash. 6th grade me would cry. Adult me is used to my favorites being destroyed, so, meh.
Agreed. I enjoyed that about the books. They are so obsessed with making sure you know women are better that they miss out on great story opportunities of men and women who work together
One thing I liked about the books was the concept that men and women were different and they were most powerful when they worked together. The books already have non white people in other territories. Yet they still push this nonsense. Also they will make the aes sedai all perfect Angels.
It is odd that the 2 rivers was so small, remote, and generally unknown, yet the make up of the village would imply travelers from far and wide settle down there in this show.
Literally the reason men are feared in WoT is because the male half of magic is cursed and the singular post powerful channeler ever to have lived was Lews Therin Telamon, the man who would become known as The Dragon, along with Ared Mosinel, [Rahvin], and Elan Morin Tedronai, [Ishamael]. However in the case of those two Rahvin was never shown to be ++1 despite being on equal rating as the other two and Ishamael exists as a mirror to the Dragon in the first place. The fact Rahvin is labelled as ++1 makes little sense as he never exhibits the kind of raw power that he should be capable of despite other male channelers who are weaker managing more impressive feats in their own right.
The Breaking of the World, which isn't a metaphor, happens because every male magic user goes literally insane. They are rightly feared because the literal Satan of the WoT universe, Shai'tan, counters their sealing attempt with the aforementioned curse which literally instantly drove Lews Therin and the other 100 Champions insane. Every other male channeler who didn't then faces an inevitable descent into madness as long as they continued to channel magic, meaning their two options to survive were to willingly stop channeling which was a near impossibility for any channeler, male or female, or alternatively go live in a Stedding; a null zone magic couldn't be used in which would offer a reprieve from the madness. Providing it wasn't obliterated during the Breaking which many were. Those who tried the former inevitably succumbed to channeling and still went mad, those who tried the latter also inevitably succumbed to the need to embrace magic and left the Stedding even though they knew it would kill them in the end.
It's the reason The Vileness happens at the hands of the Reds. That and they're stupid enough to be manipulated into it by the Blacks who want to kill any new male channelers because they know eventually the Dragon will be reborn. It ties in directly to Thom's back story several times over. Its why he leaves Morgase to go find his nephew who was stilled by the Reds then abandoned. It's why he hates Aes Sedai. It's the founding conflict for his entire relationship interacting with Moraine. It's why Logain and Mazrim Tain are even characters of not as they are both extremely powerful male channelers who both proclaimed themselves The Dragon Reborn, however both turned out to be False Dragons.
It's one of the singular most important defining aspects of the lore why every male channeler in the books is feared by literally every culture in the world. The Sharans, the Ocean folk, the Seanchan, every fucking country and kingdom on the main continent.
And these chucklefucks want to fuck that over for reasons of ignorance and downright stupidity that will mean the story no longer makes sense.
I did not need any more reason to not see it. We already have diversity for diversity sake and they said they will focus more on Moiraine, cause why the fuck not.

Why in the world would I try to put myself thru this crap, I would rather watch paint dry.
Removing the necessity of being male to channel Saidin isn't just an excuse to shove more women into the main plot, it's another case of:
"Provable, inherent differences between the sexes? Hissss Burn it down, erase all records!"
I have a buddy who thinks that by the end Egwene is the one who does the true “Hero’s journey” he makes a great case. Anyway, The series already has equality of the sexes. Sorry it’s tangled and nuanced like real life and not easy enough to summarize to a Yale graduate.
I liked that men and women had to work together.
Well Critical Theory on Race or Sex encourages segregation.
I’m not a fan of critical theory but what’s that have to do with WOT?
They're injecting modern Woke-ass theories into WOT. That's what I am talking about.
Makes no sense. She is the mentor and important but not even in half the books. I honestly wonder if the showrunner even read the books.
Showrunner's favourite character is Egwene so that says it all. If the show somehow lasts until the end will be interesting to see what happens to her at the end.

This is why I would’ve fired the showrunner. We hired you to adapt the story. Not be obsessed with representation

Everything woke turns to trash.
If it’s woke it started as trash
Infiltration is real.

Egwene is white in the books.

Its made by Amazon did you expect any different? Look how they "diversified" Tolkien
