Read a few reviews that were more or less, "1000 out of 10, greatest game ever made or ever will be made." If mainstream game journos love it it must be garbage.

No one on my friends list is playing it, none of my friends know what it is, I've seen zero ads for it, no one on twitch played it. It's a "give us a good review, because black" game. More importantly, I watched a few minutes of gameplay, and it looked like the most nothing video game ever.
I had never even heard of it before seeing this thread.
All I know about this game is that there are 2 blacks (1 man, 1 woman) on the cover.
Automatic do-not-buy for me given the in-your-face wokeism. I'll probably pass on ever pirating it as well.
The cynic in me says the devs aren't particularly woke, but did it purely to play the mainstream press and get easy 10/10's for free.
Aside from that, the game seems to be legitimately decent and non-pandering.
Well in that case, all I can say is that at least someone there had the brains not to fill the game with woke garbage.
I've watched a few people play it. As a game from the Dishonoured devs, it looks to play a lot like an objectively shittier Dishonoured.
How could it be more linear than Dishonored, which is a linear sequence of areas? In Deathloop you get to choose which mission among 16 (4 areas in 4 different time periods) to do next, although sometimes getting an item will require you to go to a certain area.
It is certainly more shallow than Prey.
I tried, but had to return it. The PC requirements are unusually high and I couldn't even run it at low without maxing out my VRAM. I can play literally anything else on the market with no issue. Would love to at least try it to see if it's good. From what I've seen, the AI looks downright brain dead though...
Im waiting for a sale. It looks kinda cool, but not enough to spend full price on. Besides the Easy Allies review and a few others I trust have said the game is good, but flawed. All those perfect 10 reviews are 100% paid off.
Woke-casting? Instant no-buy from me.
Zero innovations and gameplay that's been done better in games nearly 20 years-old? Not even worth wasting time pirating such a game.
It's bad enough they replace all the cool heroes with wokesters, but the extra spite-icing on a converged cake is that the gameplay for all these new titles are less innovative and mechanically inclined than games on the PS2 and OG Xbox.
Worth a Buy, who is pretty based, gave it a thumbs up with some caveats (shitty AI particularly).
Watched a guy play it on YouTube. It looks fun but not really my type of game (I much preferred Prey over Prey Mooncrash), and it's hardly perfect. People shouldn't give any regard to game journalist rating systems in the first place.
When you brush away all the progressive nonsense, you're left with a slightly below average shooter that doesn't offer much innovation in its gameplay, but at least has a somewhat unique setting and gameplay loop. Worth a look on sale but won't hold your interest for long. 6/10
(6/10 means below average in 2000's era ratings which is the metric I'm most familiar with)
I haven't even played it but I'm confident in my evaluation.
man, at first I thought you meant Loop Hero and I was ready to give a pretty solid rec, but...
Yeah no, this is the first I've heard of Deathloop, and every sign points to 'Nope' as far as it goes.
Just found an article that says Deathloop couldn't break the top 50 on steam, dropped under the top 75 days later, and is basically gone off the charts now. This all but confirms paid reviews. Tales of Arise got no media coverage, and has more than double the players right now.
Tales of Arise is p. fun
Went through that small temptation to impulse buy it at launch but then saw "the hype" around its review coverage and thought...nope. I just have no interest in it. Everything I've seen of it does nothing for me.
So I'd rather just keep the money in my bank account and keep waiting for Lost Judgment this coming week...which I know I will play the hell out of because I love Yakuza games.
Synthetic Man did a half review of it. He seems like it but is not great, as other has pointed out it is a worse Dishonored that has performance issues.
As for me, since it has 2 blacks on the steam poster I simply gave it a pass. I did not know anything about the game before that so I just assume is some George Floyd tribute with probably a ton of extra woke crap in it.
I've also decided not to buy if it is not specifically tailored for me, I'm done having compromises.
Waiting for a sale. I don't care about the black people even though I'm pretty sure just like everyone else here that it was a cynical ploy, a current year-ism. I'm sure there's an OK game in there somewhere regardless.
^^ Pretty much EXACTLY my view on the whole thing as well.
I want to give it a go. But I'll probably pirate it. Think my pc is finally too old even for minimum settings, i7 5820k, ati 480 I think.
But I've Also noticed no advertising for it, if it wasn't for ACGs review of it I wouldn't know it existed.
Yeah, Prey got shafted in the marketing as well, and that game was actually pretty awesome. It's like they just don't have any faith in their own work.
They should have named it something other than Prey. Maybe it wouldn’t have made much of a difference in regards to sales, but a ton of people are still pissed off at the cancellation of the original Prey 2. It’s a shame, because Arkane’s Prey is really good.
Which is an incredibly nieve tactic, because word of mouth is more about luck than anything. And even then, that's still technically advertising, just free, because someone influential just so happened to really like your shit and made a video about it.. cough cough.
Denuvo game. PC gamers should treat it as if it's invisible, like I do, until it shows on crack sites.
Worth a Buy has a good review on it. Says the characters are annoying, the gameplay is generally great, but the AI sucks, and it's gets old after about 10 hours.
