Women in general play a shitton of games. It's just things like Candy Crush, Animal Crossing, The Sims for most of them.
Where it went wrong is when the ones that played guys games (you know the ones who call themselves some bullshit like legtgamrgrrl online) decided to start trying to take over men's games and used overarching statistics to say women are underrepresented in games. So now they are all ruined to appease a tiny percentage of the player base.
It doesn't hurt that the general world politics has been heavy feminist for decades now too.
Humor is a defense mechanism, a way for a biological bloodline to try to control destiny in the face of the uncontrollable. If you have money, if you have strength, if you have beauty, you have ways to attract attention and gain friends. Only when there is no avenue to get any positive attention do people try to entertain through humor. Because it's fucking hard, and there's no one size fits all. The effort that a comedian has to go through to trial and error jokes is humiliating. And, if someone already has a way to win attention, then that person won't get authentic feedback on if the jokes work or not.
Consider boss jokes. Some CEO who signs the paycheck throws out a pittiful attempt to be humorous. It's not funny, but are you going to not laugh? Likewise, some beautiful girl is interested in you and tries to make you laugh. It's not funny, but if she's putting out then sure, give your best laugh as payment.
That's why girls aren't funny. Not some biological barrier, at least not an authentic barrier. Just that girls don't have to be funny to get attention.

On the other hand, if you look at places like Soviet Russia which were simply too poor and desolate to play the Women Are Wonderful game, they had plenty of female snipers who needed nerves of steel and many Russian women were significantly more cool-headed than the average western man.
Good times don't just create weak men, they create weak women as well.
Women, generally, don't have to work as hard to find a comfortable level of success, often don't have the traits and IQ to make it to the upper echelons of success, and just prefer other stuff. i believe women may also have poorer hand eye coordination and spatial reasoning. So yeah, may do less well at games. I would play guy's games just as much and would easily beat my female friends, but could not beat my male ones, fighting games in particular. Anecdotal. Women, minorities (except for some East Asians) want the success and payoff but won't or can't do the work and just *itch at it being white male biases. It isn't. Have to learn to ignore them and never give them an inch.
tbh women tend to be underrepresented because they dont waste time like men do because of how their minds work. women would rather read or live in their imagination then throwing 10 hours at a game. thats a generalization but from everything ive seen (mega gamer here) it holds true. also men can completely focus on one thing and shut everything else out hence why we can focus hard on a game and get really amazing at it but women cant really shut out everything. its like a computer screen but you cant close out the tabs. the science is really fascinating tbh. but there are girls in the pro scene of some games and they out class alot of the men. like canafa's scarlett in the starcraft 2 progamming scene.
