That's basically where my handle comes from. Man is a technology-creating creature. The more the technology we create progresses, the fewer people there are that know how to fix it when it breaks. That's the paradox of it - the more we do with it, the more people rely on it, and the harder people are fucked when it shits out on them.
And how many people are forgetting already how to do things for themselves? I have seen science writers speculate how on Earth something as technologically successful as Man could possibly go extinct (with heavy overtones of fart-sniffing, of course). Well, that's easy. Take away their tech support, and the entire species collapses. How do you take away their tech support? I think we're seeing how. Degredation of mental abilities due to lack of selection pressures, crossed with degrading quality of product, a slowdown of REAL technological progress, and, well, I think what is about to happen is just looking at a lemming population crash from the inside where we know what the species in question is thinking.
Here's a story of "precursors" for you - a species rises up from the ashes of an extinct one that was great at technology, but killed off by its own hubris.
There are jobs in tech that do not require you to understand. Procedures, automation scripts, error code dbs have made some jobs very easy.
I see it all the time in software implementation, upgrades/ patching, low level user support.
Do not get me wrong, you can easily tell who is tech oriented among them but is no longer need it to complete most tasks.
Nope. The person they're dunking on, Thomas Zeman, is not a Microsoft executive, though the title leads you to believe that (someone else in the thread was, and not someone supporting Zeman). He's a nobody leftie in Australia with an unhealthy fixation on Trump.
Sure, hire based on politics if you like. But don't complain if it turns out your workforce is a bunch of activist malcontents you cannot trust. cough Google cough
Making decent coffee is hard enough that we still don't have an IoT coffee pot that costs less than $1400. My old roommate was literally a barista, now she's a developer
First off, exactly why the fuck would you want an IoT coffee pot? Who the hell is enough of an Internet-enabled coffee snob that they need to be able to trigger some machine sequence of roasting, grinding, and brewing from their smartphone while still in bed?
Second off, good for her old roommate, but the title "developer" is pretty nebulous, and we all know that SJWs in tech like to extend the definitions of terms. Apparently writing a "game" in TWINE counts as being a "game developer" (as we've all seen certain people use as their springboard). Hell, last I knew all Randi's credits as a "developer" amounted to were a couple minor commits to an inconsequential part of something in Linux, and it's debatable as to whether the work she submitted was even her own.
I mean, let's face it - you can put your boots in the oven, but that doesn't make them biscuits, and in the same manner you can put a barista in the dev bullpen but that doesn't mean that their code is going to amount to a hill of beans. Some people are cut out for tech, and some people aren't. Trouble is, they keep trying to force diversity bullshit into it over actual knowledge and merit-based hiring practices - and that's how you end up with inferior products that sink companies.
It's all just part of their planned utopia. Everyone in the peasant class is a interchangeable labor unit with a simple mathematical value. This value you get based not on what you might be good at, but instead your party affiliation, race, and chosen genitals. Conservative white male? That's a 0, off to the work gulag for you. Democrat black vagina who is an other-gender? That's a really high score, we've got some good "management" work for you.
TL;DR a Microsoft exec makes a common sense remark regarding competence and regressive leftist spergs, including one of their ring leaders, have extremist bitch fits about it.
If you looked like Randi Harper, you would also be very upset at anyone using the word 'fit'.
Randi Harpooned
In other words, once technology matures to the point where it's easy to use, it's literally easy enough for any monkey to use it.

As I said in another thread, there's a lot of people in the world that understand how to work technology, but don't understand how technology works.
That's basically where my handle comes from. Man is a technology-creating creature. The more the technology we create progresses, the fewer people there are that know how to fix it when it breaks. That's the paradox of it - the more we do with it, the more people rely on it, and the harder people are fucked when it shits out on them.
Few people can operate a command line interface as it requires memorization or a list of commands to use.

To be fair, no one can know everything. Tech is an intersection of countless disciplines.

Oh the ironing, someone who doesn't know English implying someone else is being illegitimate.
I haven't heard that land whale's name in a long time.

she's still around?
Randi Harper hasn't died from a heart attack yet?
