Good for them! EU will be really unhappy with them. I also expect they don't really give a shit what the EU thinks, until I'm sure they try to stick it to them with money.

I've had a soft spot for them ever since I went to a Czech national team hockey game a few years ago. Their fans were some of the most fun people I've ever been around and by far the most fun I've had at a sporting event. It was like a huge party where a hockey game happened to be going on, and nothing like the general up-tight-ness that comes with an American event.

Slightly belated news, but good on the Czechs for sticking it to the EU.

Those Evo Scorpions look really good.

Nah, they're not that great - no personal experience, but people tell me it's overpriced and some of them have quality control issues. CZ makes great guns (people joke about using the P10C being "cheating") but this was kind of a letdown based on community reactions.

Check out the Stribog from Grand Power, though. People absolutely love it.

Hmmm. I didn't know Grand Power made one of those.

They’re ok stock but Need aftermarket stuff to make them shine. for what they’re going now I’d just save up for an MP5 clone and call it a day

Is there a point to them if they're 9mm? I know nothing about firearms, but wouldn't a handgun be the same? I'm assuming it's a semi for civilians.

The Evo Scorpion is a semi-automatic firearm which can come as a legally recognized pistol, but typically most people will but it in a form that is commonly called a "Pistol Caliber Carbine".

PCC's are firearms that use ammunition that is normally built for handguns, but fire them out of longer barrels (increasing the speed the bullets leave the firearm and therefore extending the range and accuracy of the weapon), that can be easily hold larger amounts of ammunition, and physically manipulated on a platform that is similar to a compact rifle.

PCC's do not have the penetrating power or range of rifles, but they are small enough in size to use in close environments, and tend to be easier for people to use and train on than pistols, and are not likely to over-penetrate to the same extent rifle rounds would (given standard ammunition types). This is why they tend to be regarded as useful defensive weapons.

Most people can be easily trained, or are initially trained, to fire rifle platforms, so it takes less time and ammunition for someone to be trained on a PCC than a pistol. This is especially true for people who are more recoil sensitive like women and young people.

A pistol's primary advantages are it's concealability and it's small size which allows the shooter to be much more maneuverable. A rifle's primary advantages are it's range, penetrating power, and accuracy. PCC's are a compromise that sacrifices the long range & high penetration of a rifle, and the small size of a pistol, to have firearm that is more powerful & accurate than a pistol, but less unwieldy than a rifle. The also have one minor added benefit of potentially having the same caliber bullet as your pistol carries, making what is called a "perfect pair". This means that you may be able to use the same bullets, or even the same magazines, on 2 different guns. This way, you can carry both at the same time, using the same magazine & ammunition, and use either gun if a target must be engaged under different circumstances.

Due to the variety in types of ammunition and rifle platforms, there are arguments to be had about "pistols" or "short barreled rifles" (SBR's) that fire rifle rounds as an alternative, but that isn't super necessary to answer your question.

Curious, why the Bren? There are other 5.56 platforms outside of the AR-15 that do the job too.

They haven't had the best history of keeping their republic, IIRC.

Instead of German Nazis or Soviet communists taking over, this time it’ll be German communists if they can’t stop it. It would be amusing if it weren’t so sad.

Czechoslovakia, like Poland, needs a god damned break for a minute.

...

I nominate the Czech Republic for Statehood.

Have you been paying attention?

The US is not headed in the kind of direction where joining up would qualify as 'a break' from fascists and communists.

Actually, I think we were only headed in that direction recently. Longterm we'll be fine. And we're still a shit-load better than the EU.

Seriously, Ohio has more freedom from DC than the UK has from Brussels.

We'll manage, like we always have. As Heydrich once said, the Czechs are a nation of laughing beasts, and our national sports are ice hockey and finding creative ways to ignore stupid laws. Almost nothing serious ever happens here, because while the Presidential standard might have "Truth prevails" written on it, the real motto of this country should really be "I don't give a fuck". This country is basically an IRL Shire from Tolkien's works; we're hobbits who make great beer, cars, pornography, and weapons.

FYI, as far as I can tell this was nearly completely ignored by our media. Everything is just coronavirus this, coronavirus that.

Also, while this is somewhat good news, we might be pretty much fucked anyway, because the EU is now seriously pushing a complete ban on lead ammunition. They're planning to introduce a new law in January. At the same time, the Czech government agency in charge of standards is planning to revise guidance for gun ranges in a way that would likely make most current ranges illegal and force them to shut down.

Seeing my country on English speaking forums always makes me happy, so I'll share a fun fact with you.

The English words "pistol" and "howitzer" come from Czech, originally. In the 15th Century we kinda went a bit crazy; first we made basically Protestantism before it was cool, and then when the guy who came up with it got burned at the stake, a horde of angry peasants formed what was basically medieval ISIS, except Christian instead of Muslim (although the whole business still caused a couple of crusades) and really high tech for its time, making use of a surprising number of innovative early firearms. Also a few people got thrown out the window in Prague which coined the term Defenestration. (From Latin: "De" - out of; "Fenestra" - window.)

The word Pistol comes from "píšťala"; literally means "whistle", and it was a primitive hand cannon, basically a tube on a wooden handle, usually attached by a leather strap. It was a single-shot weapon that was commonly used against cavalry.

The word Howitzer comes from "houfnice"; a literal translation is something like "crowd gun". Or "Crowder", hehe. It was an early field gun - unlike modern howitzers which are majorly used for indirect fire, this was a cannon where they packed the barrel with all kinds of random shit they found around, rocks, metal shavings, bits of brick; they put a massive powder charge behind that, and fired it into a crowd of charging infantry like a giant shotgun.

means nothing. you still can't walk into a shop and buy a gun on the spot. state still has to approve you, grant you firearm license after going through whatever hoops they feel like for no particular reason.
