When I first found out how all of those leaders you mentioned harped on some enemy group of people that was "unfairly hording gold", it broke any illusions I had of FDR being a decent human being.

If America didn't get a bad taste in its mouth by looking at the rise of dictators in Europe FDR would have 100% pushed for an American dictatorship just to "get us out of the depression and no longer."
He turned the country into a one-party state and had the supreme court in the palm of his hand. He didn't really need a dictatorship.
