Please keep in mind that Saturday is usually a day off for the military, and for every plane or helicopter you see doing a flyover, there is a large contingent of maintenance and admin staff coming in to the squadron hanger to make sure that plane or helicopter is ready to fly.
It is hot as hell and around the country, too, so if you see someone in uniform while out and about today, at a parade or concert, maybe think about offering them some water.

During my 4 year squadron tour most of the time the weekend was off at home. Duty section exempted, of course.
We worked Panama shifts, unless you were first half days nobody got weekends off without taking leave.
