I mean it doesn't look woke at all, but it sure seems like a huge chunk of the games that aren't woke are just Dark Souls clones. I guess that's what the Asians like, so that's what they make.
Soulslike games are weird. They always seem to do well but even their fans hesitate to label them 'fun'. They're all about the distilled dopamine hit of pure achievement. Like an old scientist hippie who goes beyond just using drugs and extracts and injects their active chemicals directly for pure brain stimulation.
Loved the art-style of the first game -- that liminal castle near the end of the game with the massive tower was an absolute trifle to play through, but it looked breathtaking.
The problem -- as others already said -- is that this is basically the same game people have been playing since Demon's Souls in 2009.
17 years on and the only upgrades are in responsiveness and graphics.
Even if games aren't explicitly woke, the fact that there has been zero innovation where it counts is equally as troubling.
Reminds me of that game Exodus and that Expanse game -- I keep getting them confused because the gameplay in both almost look identical to one another, and they're basically just Mass Effect 3 with "modern" graphics.
This looks like every other game ever for the past 6 years
Yea, and Im not going to buy it. I have little interesting dark souls clonea.
If you're going to buy a soulslike at all, buy Lords of the Fallen.
last game was mid AF
i hope the next ditches the lamp gimmick
I actually kinda liked that dimension of gameplay. They leaned on it a bit too heavily but the core idea was alright imo.

This is the state of gaming in 2026. Just copy another game that made some money, add micro transactions.

And yet Factorio is still the most potent dopamine delivery system ever devised.

Game 1 was better than it should have been.
