It's just shrinkflation applied to video games. Now, even singleplayer digital games have fucking EULAs you have to agree to and are always-online so they can scrape your personal data to sell to advertisers.
AAA will never lower their prices. I do think you see it drive more and more towards a subscription model though. I used to think cloud based required too. I'm less sure about that just because of the compute needed for AI.
AI is going to get really expensive too. It's so ridiculously inefficent computing and doesn't really get better. As soon as we've pushed all mainstream creativity to AI, there's going to be a scarcity problem as we can't scale power even slightly close to that same level of growth.
The nice thing about browsing warez sites was that they were mostly sponsored by porn sites, so you'd get some nice T&A while looking for the no-CD crack to make the game you bought playable.
I always believed we would have a dual economy of consumers (left vs right.) Never through the economy will split between consumers and big businesses like this. All of these companies are betting other companies to buy AI and throw shitty scraps to the consumer. They never realized putting all your eggs in one basket just breaks all the eggs.
This is pretty normal throughout history where business resources are reserved for the government & other businesses. Having a robust consumer side of anything at all is a relatively new phenomena from the past 150 years. Before then, people either paid out the ass, made it themselves, or just did without,
Remember how games going all digital was supposed to make them cheaper because they didn’t have to print or ship discs?

God bless torrents and unwoke mods.
I’m not sure I know a recent AAA I’d even bother trying. Maybe that Doom game that was recently cracked
We used to just pirate games.
You dorks can't hustle warez anymore?

They had to make money some how.
Getting paid per click and they knew you simps would click.

You still need something to come along and stomp their basket.

And expect it to be an unplayable buggy mess that will maybe get patched into a playable state in a few years when the hype has died down.
