I don't really see how that tweet is embarrassing in itself though. If someone decided to give you their nobel prize, shouldn't you recognize their generosity? Even if he did believe the prize itself was meaningless, it would look insulting and ungrateful if they didn't post about it.
They think Trump does this because he's sooo desperate for a Nobel that he'll settle for somebody else's. In reality Trump does this to mock the Nobel for ignoring actual peace and giving prizes to people just for being black for example.
Better question is how have they not figured out Trump's messaging by now.
See? I was correct, this is what they actually believe.
Trump doesn't respect them at all. This is all posturing, the same way he plays the media at every turn. It's crazy after all this time you can't see that.
Yeah, politely declining would be the more humble move. But then that would also indicate that he agrees with the Nobel Committee's decision. If you regard the Nobel Committee as full of shit, then accepting it is an epic troll move. It's basically like flipping them off.
The problem is Trump cares about these prizes. He has an ego the size of a planet. He's vain. He's a narcissist. So given the context it makes him look incredibly bad.
First he complains like a child about not having given the Nobel prize despite that prize being completely worthless. Then he publicly snubs Machado and some outlets say the reason was because she didn't give it to him. And now she gives it to him and he publicly gloats about it like a spoiled little kid who finally got his way.
He didn't troll. That's who he is. He doesn't give a shit about America. He only gives a shit about how he's perceived.

He is. He grew up during a time when the Nobel prize actually had prestige, and that's why he desperately wants one too.
Bullshit.

It is embarrassing because Trump made it quite clear that he wanted it to be awarded to him and was quite pissed about not getting it.
No. You shouldn't even accept it in the first place.
