The problem is Trump cares about these prizes. He has an ego the size of a planet. He's vain. He's a narcissist. So given the context it makes him look incredibly bad.

First he complains like a child about not having given the Nobel prize despite that prize being completely worthless. Then he publicly snubs Machado and some outlets say the reason was because she didn't give it to him. And now she gives it to him and he publicly gloats about it like a spoiled little kid who finally got his way.

He didn't troll. That's who he is. He doesn't give a shit about America. He only gives a shit about how he's perceived.
